I dont like the phrase rebuild because it implies that they're starting from scratch, which they're clearly not. But I think it's fair to suggest that the team is in a transitional phase. They're essentially trying to hand off the baton from that last core to a new core which is currently being forged while also competing for a SB. That's why it's imperative they draft well this year. There's not much wiggle room here in the transition due to years of terrible drafting, and the team very well could end up starting from scratch if they miss in this year's draft.
I think it is quite clear that John Lynch saw his role as continuing to develop the roster by moving on from ageing players and bringing in youth all along. But various posters here seem quite gleefully to be insisting that trading Deebo makes it a rebuild. But anybody who was paying attention knew that the approach of a new contract for Purdy had to make an impact. Deebo's future, slightly sadly, was set in stone by the CMC trade.

Deebo was a bum and he is 29. We're getting ready for a massive superbowl run at Levi's and we don't need that bum. Deebo bum ass is gonna get injured watch then he will cry and say he didn't get the ball.
in response to heroism you are such a negative hypocritical person saying "jed doesn't want to spend" and quoting grant Cohn hahahaha. Kawakami didn't say the 49ers don't want to spend but want to be cost efficient like a lot of teams do when you pay a quarterback a lot of money. Keep that sane energy when we win number six and that's when not an if

Just start looking at the roster not even close to saying blow up the roster and rebuild it. Especially the way the draft went last year. Our main issue is center. Brendal alone had a huge part of the blame pie chart

So essentially, we saved 17.5 million in cap space overall, but we take a hit of 16 million this year to gain 33 million next year.

I am not gonna lie, I am losing faith in Lynch. Way too many mistakes.
The Trey Lance debacle, Aiyuk, Deebo the o line and D line. It's one f**k up after another.
This off season has to be his last if he doesn't get it right.. ….We have what looks to be a real easy schedule next year so I expect a playoff run only now we could face a motivated Deebo in the playoffs. Makes you wonder what the Texans offered if we opted for a NFC rival to trade with for a bag of peanuts.
Not impressed.

With Lynch and Shanahan the 49ers have been a Super Bowl contender. The 49ers still have a ton of cap space and are in a good position to make a run again at the Super Bowl.
Don't worry about all that contract stuff, I bet you'll forget about it once free agency starts!!!

I am sorry but this post completely leaves out the playoff runs of recent years.
Many teams without lynch haven't even sniffed the playoffs or lost early.

Let's not forget deebo asked to be traded. He should be nothing but grateful to this regime as they've done him nothing but right imo.
So once that happened it made their decision that much easier. I think deebo knew he was a good candidate to be cut. That's why getting anything for him is good imo.

We lucked out with the Purdy pick. Then we have a great opportunity to build a Superbowl winning team as we have our QB on his rookie contract and we constantly whiffed on our early picks in the draft.
Free agency has been a disaster, See Hargreaves and Campbell.
The window is closed. We have way too many holes to fill. Philly will dominate us as will the Lions and the Commanders. We'll be lucky to beat the Rams ffs!
Opportunity lost. As I said I'm not impressed!

From that Lynch interview, doesn't seem like we are going to be big spenders this FA. Team wants to get younger and thats most likely through the draft. Hope our picks hit.
