Deebo off the books next year frees up more cap

That's not the point. Dead cap is money being wasted on players that are no longer working for the team, and there are clear signs now that Yorks are unhappy about their money being wasted. That's the point. It has nothing to do with the cap. It has to do with the Yorks' wasted money.

I remember this old article on KNBR.com that talked about how the Yorks absolutely despised paying people not to work. I wish I could find it. I'm sure that sentiment is still relevant today.

Remember when John York came to the facility? Since then they are dealing heavy contracts away. Which doesn't surprise me. In a way it's actually good. This team is older, injured, declining and with bloated salaries. They do need to get younger, faster, more healthy, more durable, draft status contracts instead of huge deals.

There's way too much smoke to deny the reports of the Yorks being unhappy about the financial state of the team.

There is no sign of any of that BS, that the main point

Yeah I agree. That's when we started sending expensive players away. Plus as much as people want to say it's "Jed's team" (LOL) the parents are still hugely involved. Especially financially and especially dad John York. If there is something he is not happy about financially changes happen. I think they let Jed run it day to day. But keep a close eye on the financials. They are definitely involved in the financial decisions. You don't just give a multi billion dollar asset to a kid. They are still in the business side. Especially John and especially about money. I think years and years of time have shown that to be the case.
Hero and SD making valid points. They been crunching numbers

Because he costs 16 ish million?
Grant Cohn was kinda right.. He said early in the season the higher ups weren't happy and changes might come of the season went to hell.. The window has closed and we should of started the rebuild after we lost the super bowl.. Dbo, Trent, and CMC should have been sent packing

We probably should have traded Aiyuk. Didn't seem like a great idea to pay a near top of the market price for a top 10-15 WR in a run first offense with how much money we already had invested in skill positions. Obviously it becomes much worse when he underproduces and then gets seriously hurt.

And the fact that CMC and Trent were not indicates that the team was not and is not in rebuild mode.

I dont like the phrase rebuild because it implies that they're starting from scratch, which they're clearly not. But I think it's fair to suggest that the team is in a transitional phase. They're essentially trying to hand off the baton from that last core to a new core which is currently being forged while also competing for a SB. That's why it's imperative they draft well this year. There's not much wiggle room here in the transition due to years of terrible drafting, and the team very well could end up starting from scratch if they miss in this year's draft.
