I dont like the phrase rebuild because it implies that they're starting from scratch, which they're clearly not. But I think it's fair to suggest that the team is in a transitional phase. They're essentially trying to hand off the baton from that last core to a new core which is currently being forged while also competing for a SB. That's why it's imperative they draft well this year. There's not much wiggle room here in the transition due to years of terrible drafting, and the team very well could end up starting from scratch if they miss in this year's draft.

I think it is quite clear that John Lynch saw his role as continuing to develop the roster by moving on from ageing players and bringing in youth all along. But various posters here seem quite gleefully to be insisting that trading Deebo makes it a rebuild. But anybody who was paying attention knew that the approach of a new contract for Purdy had to make an impact. Deebo's future, slightly sadly, was set in stone by the CMC trade.

Deebo felt like a goner as soon as the Aiyuk deal was done and we drafted Pearsall and Cowing.

Him producing a poor season on top of it just made it a certainty.

As you said some folks here are gleeful with the move so they can try to paint it a lot worse than it is.

You don't rebuild via WRs changing up. I don't see Aiyuk being traded but even IF that happens we have plenty of key players that a rebuild is not going to happen. It's a retool.

Sure, he wants the team to get younger but you can't do that in one season and at every position. I'd take Amari Cooper, Drew Dalman and Byron Murphy and maybe a few third and fourth tier free agents that would sign for one year. Honestly, I'd also give the Jets a call and see if they would trade Garrett Wilson.

Yea I just hope the one bigger signing is Dalman. Investing in a young C to protect Purdy is very important. Then fill in with next tier to build depth

Got to make the team better going forward. No favors to players going forward. Players won't do us favors and we should do them none. This is business. Play and perform and get paid or don't and get the axe.

Drew Dalman is set to become a free agent. Coleman Shelton also set to become a free agent, much better options than Brendel.

Our cap number went down significantly in a year which should be a restock if the belief is we're still in window. It was a bad move IMO, should have waited or designated a post June 1 to free up more capital for F/A.

letting him go and not getting anything in return is a bad move.. that move also makes deebo taking 2026 cap space

^ tbh I don't think TK is trying to stir things up, I feel his reporting has been very spot on and likes this FO/HC. Was not necessarily the case back in the day when Baalke and JH were here

People here take the extreme position way too often. There's nothing inconsistent between TK's observation and Jed also trusting Shanalynch. Jed (and Kyle and John) can all believe previous decisions didn't work out as desired and also believe they know how to make the proper adjustments moving forward.

That's not the point. Dead cap is money being wasted on players that are no longer working for the team, and there are clear signs now that Yorks are unhappy about their money being wasted. That's the point. It has nothing to do with the cap. It has to do with the Yorks' wasted money.

I remember this old article on KNBR.com that talked about how the Yorks absolutely despised paying people not to work. I wish I could find it. I'm sure that sentiment is still relevant today.

Dead cap is money already spent. How is it being wasted? They aren't actually getting more money, it's already been paid. It just hasn't been accounted for.

Just an FYI on why a Allen for Deebo deal wouldn't have made sense, Allen makes $17M for any team trading for him, he's 30 or will be 30, wants a new deal, last yr of deal, already losing $15.68M with the deal, trading for Allen means another $17M loss, and the idea of restructuring the deal makes zero sense, adds dead money for 2026 when they need to limit the dead money going forward.
