I think, objectively, it has to be production per dollar. That's the only way you can normalize the two players and gauge whether the decision was beneficial or not (smith and his replacement). All comparisons must be normalized and it only seems logical to normalize based on player cost.

I can't believe that this has to be explained. I believe, that if you really thought about it seriously for a few minutes, you'd realize pretty quickly why you don't pay $500 for a bad oil change service. It doesn't matter whether your the CEO of Google or not and the money doesn't matter. Then think about what happens if your mechanic finds out that your paying $500 for somebody to do a spotty job of your oil.

It's not difficult, you can't reward bad performances and expect your next results to get better. You send a signal that if you don't live up to your cost, you won't continue to get paid.

COME ON PEOPLE!

Look at it this way: Kerley roughly tripled Smith's production. Additionally, Patton and Celek both gained more yards than Smith. Draughn was 4 yards away from matching Smith's receiving yardage total. It was time to go. You can argue it was a bad QB, but when you've got other players on the team out-performing him, and other players on OTHER teams with arguably WORSE QB's last year than us still producing, it ultimately points to the player himself not getting it done.

Yup. And it sets a tone. Produce or go. It's time the players are held accountable for their individual performances. We had a bad team, but that doesn't mean a receiver should run lazy routes, or not block properly. That is just an example of course, but that line of thinking should hold true for every player. Do your damn job, the best you possibly can on every play. No more living in a reputation, ogling here multiple years and not producing based on potential for next year.

Plenty of options out there in free agency and the draft. Pryor, Jeffery, Britt, Garcon on the market. Then several intriguing prospects to look at in the draft.

With Torrey and the niners, I think both sides wanted to start fresh
It's easy to get excited for Lynch cause he is saying all the right things, but I do like the fact that he acknowledges that and that he doesn't want to be just a pretty talker. The only thing that is bothering me slightly is that he seems to be transparent to the media, but I hope it's just fluff to satisfy the media seeing that he used to be one of them.
Have to admit, he's making the right moves so far in terms of personnel without letting salary get in the way.

This is why you're probably my favorite poster here OTC spitting out that knowledge and facts. Smith is a one trick pony and he will find a better fit elsewhere.

but but but he could stretch the field!!!

How will we ever replace those 20 receptions. I can't believe people are upset over this move. If you don't produce get the F out of here.

2016 mighr be an anomaly statistically and the money is neaningless to me. Trying to get the most production pwr dollar is not the best way to win imo.
I think Lynch will be like Elway and be very aggressive in free agency
