But yes tell us more.

"if" Deebo was gonna get moved IMO it would have happened. "if" Mack retires it frees up some more cap space and they could go sign JC Tretter who's run a similar scheme and a damn good center in his own right. I agree we can't have Mack retire though.

Where are you getting this take of our secondary getting roasted? Overall the numbers don't match that take. They have IMO 3 starting CBs in Mosely/Ward/Thomas. They drafted two more CBs and Jimmie Ward is one of the best coverage S in football. We have multiple great coverage LBers as well. Toss in a blitzkrieg of defensive lineman, overall I'm not worried about our defense.

The unknowns for me are on the OL. They got 4 OL (plus West) that are all either what ifs from last yr or rookies this yr. They've put some picks into that position group and the competition will help the cream rise to the top.
the safety thing is horrible.. did you see the secondary last year.. horrible.. yes. i love our free agent but man secondary is still a concern

SF was a top 5 pass D unit last yr and that's with scrubs like Norman/Dre coming in off the street. This secondary is much better and the DL has improved as well.

I also disagree this safety thing is horrible. I'll bet money they bring back Tartt on a cheap deal just like they brought JV back.

Right? I wanted to upgrade safety and someone that made sense to me was Brisker (based on where we were drafting) after he was gone, the well dried up.

Ward is a damn good safety. Most teams don't have one good safety, let alone two (what everyone is asking for). Our front 7 is the tits and IMO the secondary overall is better right now.

I don't know, some guys on here were arguing that they know more than Joe Montana when it came to evaluating the qb position.

Joe Montana that hasn't been to a 49er practice in over a decade, wants no part of SF unless they pay him to show up, and isn't sitting around watching film of 49er players? That guy?

Let me know when Joe's job is to evaluate players and not make sketchers commercials.

New Orleans just kicks the can down the road every year. It's not a winning strategy IMO. Gonna have to cut 40+ million next year too.

9ers cap issues stem from one player and one player alone. The minute they realize they are overrating his value and make a deal with Houston the better.

It's really not that complicated of a situation. They don't want to burn 7.5 mill for cutting Jimmy for no reason before he can pass a physical. Plus no one will trade for him before he can pass a physical. Once his physical is passed he will be traded or cut. Simple as that.

I will take a bend but don't break, full length of field drive secondary any day of the week over a splashy, playmaking secondary that gives up chunck plays and quick scores.

Be nice to have both eventually. We don't need an overrated Marcus Peters/Trevon Diggs player but a playmaking safety would be helpful.

This. You can actually have a sound and disciplined group that still makes plays on balls.

True, kinda. They wouldn't get that cash now but if and wen he resigns with another team they get that $7.5M in a credit for the 2023 season.

I'm guessing they want that cash now though.

True. I still think they'll give it a couple weeks after he passes the physical to try and sneak a trade of any kind in before cutting him at the last minute before his salary is guaranteed. Kind of f**ks Jimmy but his doctors and himself helped contribute to that by waiting on surgery.

Rather let Hufanga and Moore battle for that spot then bring back Tartt. I think that dropped int ended his time here

No doubt. At this point if you weren't cutting him pre-free agency then might as well wait and see if something happens across the league.

I know how you feel about TH, but IMO he's a sub package and STer. That has value, he's not a starter though. They need to have a safety that's interchangeable with Ward. Tartt can play in the box, 2-high, single-high, blitz, run defend, cover in the slot etc.

We will see, I would love to have Tartt back for dirt cheap and I think it will happen at some point.

I know teams can waive physicals when signing/trading for players

but can we waive the physical for Jimmy ?

Boo hoo we didn't sign a 10 million dollar a year, 30 year old free safety to play Strong Safety.

Did he get $10M a yr? Yeah, no thanks, I'm good with what we have.

Agreed 100%. Let the Saints pay him that much. Niners have one very good S in Ward...let the other guys battle it out for the second S position. Wouldn't be surprised at all if Hufanga takes it.
