Report: John Lynch has final say on 90-man roster, Kyle Shanahan on cut to 53-

UPDATE 6:15 p.m. ET: Trotter has clarified his previous report to say that Lynch will have final say on the 90-man roster, draft and free agency with Shanahan holding control of the 53-man roster.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/01/30/john-lynch-to-have-final-say-on-53-man-roster/

Makes sense, but I bet both will have input in each others decisions.

Man it is exciting times isn't it? A GM that is smart enough to know what he doesn't know and have people help him. If only we had this with Harbaugh. but oh well shanny ftw!

Lynch with Harbaugh. Good God that would've been awesome.

I'm actually more excited about Shanahan...think he could have an even higher upside due to a real WCO, building it up from scratch and especially because of his X's and O's over Greg Roman

we'll see what the defense looks like though. if this defense is still bad, then it doesn't matter how good our offense is. JH was a defense / run first guy, with a QB pedigree, rare to find.
I am starting to get a excited about this guy after the initial shock...

I feel a little tingling sensation

Not only that but look what he did with Kap. Imagine if he would have had a decent Qb.

Not sure Shanny would have been as successful with that team.

Finally the WCO returns! I can't wait to see Kyle's version of it in a couple of years when the roster is turned over. Damn it's still difficult to say Greg Roman without throwing up in my mouth a little bit.

Me too. And the fun part is that even though we won't have all the pieces in place, his X's and O's is going to make a huge difference and get the most from all the pieces he does have. When was the last time you were able to say that?

His play calling has been pretty impressive this year. I liked it in Washington as well.

That would be an understatement. I rewatch the Falcons/Hawks game...thing of beauty.

Big time truth. He's got to find a legit DC. It's going to be a critical hire.
Nice note within the article on the front page.

"It took the Falcons 27 offensive plays to repeat the same formation twice in the NFC Championship Game against Green Bay almost 2 weeks ago."

Talk about the anti-HaRoman!

Lynch is a smart man, unlike Baalke.

He understands that despite disagreements, they have to work together.

Someone on the radio a few days ago claimed that Baalke would sign guys that Fangio had no clue about.

Lynch is a global thinker and bright, Baalke was a grinder who worked his way up from scout to GM. That's why I always thought they needed a football guy as president or head of football operations...not a stat guy (Marathe) or a money guy (Guido). With Lynch they need some grinders who have lived in the scouting world to help find guys. The kind of scouts who saw college seniors when they played pee wee football and kept track of them. Too many teams are relying on video and combine stats.

I think it's probably just going to be Tarver. I'd love an Ed Donatell, John Butler or Jeff Fisher kind of hire, though.

That's a good question. When Mike Shanahan was OC?

That is certainly the early safe bet.

The second part of the first sentence says it all.
John Lynch to 49ers Fans: 'We're Going to Make You Proud'
Lynch spent more than 25 minutes on KNBR Wednesday morning with the Murph & Mac show. His first interview with the San Francisco 49ers flagship radio station covered everything from rooming with Edgar Renteria during his minor league baseball career, to his expectations as an NFL general manager.

Lynch continued to speak candidly about the interview process with the 49ers, his qualifications for the job and how important it is to embrace the randomness of life. But maybe the most impactful portion of the half-hour chat came at the end.

As Brian Murphy began to wind down the interview, Lynch interjected with a thoughtful message for what 49ers fans should expect from his new regime.

"I would just tell people, watch the moves we make," Lynch began unprompted. "Of course we're going to make some mistakes along the way, but we're going to make you proud with the type of players that we build this team around. I (also) think it's very important to be invested in this community.

"I remember (former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach) Tony Dungy and the first meeting he ever had with us. He told us, 'Our job is to win championships, but if that's all we've done at the end of our time together, then we haven't done enough.' I've been around a lot of people that live that.

"I understand what a special community (the Bay Area is). We want to be a part of it, and we want to make people proud. I can give my commitment that we're going to leave no stone unturned to try and get people that represent the organization. First of all, everything we do, being single-minded to win World Championships and also to make the community proud with the guys we have.

"That's the one thing I will promise."
