Saleh has a fetish for run stopping DEs, that's not the front office.... coaching staff identifies the player types it wants/needs and front office finds them. It's been heavily detailed. Also no coincidence given how horrifically Saleh has mismanaged Solomon Thomas at end instead of inside. He doesn't like traditional edge players, he likes big ends. Explains why our coaching staff which determines the final 53 man waive Attoachu despite him being a decent edge player. Saleh is a f**king moron.

Yeah. If Colbert and Akhello can at least get back to the way they were playing last year.. that'd immediately make the 2017 draft incredible. It's unreal that they took such a giant step backwards this year but it's also not unrealistic for them to get back to playing well.

Witherspoon played good / solid last year. Colbert played like a damn stud. Same with Foster.. he needs to play like he was playing in 2017 (minus the injuries). But with Foster, Kittle, Trent and CJ - you've got more than a solid enough draft.

Solomon Thomas is a bust at #3 but he's still a solid starter on most teams playing inside

Any time you botch a top 5 pick it knocks the draft class down a few pegs. It's just too important to nail those type of picks.

Reality is if you draft top 5 ten times in a row, you will miss at least a couple times. We have seen "safe picks" bust many times.

I don't think he can be disappointed in anyone (on staff), especially not with Saleh...he's the one that gifted him guys like Toomer, Attaochu and our best defender (Marsh).

Fact remains.

So if the players are so good, then it has to be poor coaching right ?

I don't know if I should answer this one seriously...

Maybe you were under a rock and didn't hear about the injuries.

You're going to get an "every team has injuries" response. Even though there's only one team in the NFL right now missing their starting QB.

Andrew Norwell is playing below...ready for this...Mike Person who's a top 10 G per PFF. Insane.

I understood fans who said we can "get by" with average G's as long as you have premier C's and T's but the reality is Person is playing as a top 10 G right now. Tomlinson is moving up the ranks too playing at a top 20 level. Wow. Who saw that coming???

Ironically, Richburg has been the slowest to hit his talent level compared to the other 4 starters.

I'd still love to have Norwell because of his age and he's getting better every week in a new offense as he has all pro talent but as 9er fans, you gotta be loving the way this unit has played through injury and grown together.

PS: We still need to pay Person.

I'd caution an apples to apples comparison here with PFF only because some situations can't be flattened and analyzed. An equal situation would be Norwell in this offense being asked to do the same things with a the same x/o schemer/game-caller. And vice versa. I know there isn't a real way to do this and we like to compare but it's really tough just like I don't think any of the vintage awesome 49er lineman of the late 80s/early 90s would have excelled on the early 90s Dallas o-line or on the famed Hogs in Washington.

Most definitely!

All of you who kicked and screamed for Josh Norwell. Well he's having a very average season so far for the huge money he's making.

He'd excel is Shanny's offense.

ehh, not athletic enough IMO to succeed in Shanny's offense.

Also, I see some saying ton extend Buckner and Day ASAP, well ASAP is after 2018 when eligible, they're not eligible to sign deals until after the 2018 season is over.

All pros can play any system. But I agree, like Trenton Brown, he's best suited for the man/power scheme's in Jacksonville and New England.

How much do you think Mike Person will cost?

We can resign Person for the change in Jed's pocket.

Sounds about right. We paid Laken Tomlinson $5,500,000 APY. Person is actually playing a tad better right now. Brandon Fusco was paid $4,250,000 APY.

I'd guess a three-year deal between these two deals.

With his history with Shanahan and seemingly being blackballed from the league in terms of his OL ranking... he will probably give a decent discount to stay here as long as he gets multiple years on any new deal.
I think he will get close to 5 million a year which is not bad for an above average starter. Hopefully we will find a better player in free agency next year but if not he is definitely good enough especially with Jimmy making him look better with his quick release
