Yeah, this whole argument is just wrong. And it's crazy how ridiculous this thread is. Every position group in the team has been improved drastically - OL, RB, WR, TE, FB, DL, LB, DB.

The only single positions that haven't made a GIANT jump are ER and Safeties and I'd still rather take what we have now over what we had before. And that's in just two offseasons. It's incredibly impressive.

he had plenty of time to evaluate ward and aa and we see how that turned out

I was much happier that we got Richburg over Norwell - but still super surprised with how they've both been playing. Hopefully Richburg can step it up and get back to Pro-bowl / All-pro form

Well 1. We had a ridiculously bad roster before. True rebuilds take time. 2. We lost our stud starting QB. Just the fact that they brought in a stud starting QB within 2 years is a HUGE win. Most front offices fail miserably here, over and over again. It's unfortunate he got injured.

We've also had a ridiculously tough schedule to start the year but we knew that going in. The rest of the year after the Rams is much easier. Still, with Jimmy and / or just a few less mistakes, we'd have a couple more wins at this point.

One more offseason to infuse talent + getting our starting QB back and going into just year 3 of this massive rebuild - I think we have the talent to do some damage. Pretty impressive.

We lost our starting qb, rb, and lost our number 1 receiver for a good portion of the season. The team is better but not complete, and we aren't deep enough yet to sustain that many major injuries(thats to be suspected considering we gutted the roster in 2017). Our offense was going to need to carry the team a bit if we were going to succeed, without jimmy we just arent finishing games and playing quite as well. Our pass defense was going to be an expected weakness due to a lack of pass rush(really wasnt a ton of options this offseason, this next draft is a different story), its only been exasperated by Akhello and Colbert's regression.

My question to you if if Jimmy and McKinnon didn't go on IR and goodwin didn't get rekt game one, do you truly believe we'd be 1-5? I think we'd be closer to 3-3, give or take a game. Its not like we are being btfo'd in these games. They're close, the eye test to me shows a more talented team, but injured team, thats making dumb mistakes at the end of games against quality competition(for the most part, that Arizona game was f**king ridiculous). People will say injuries are an excuse I say they're an explanation. Some teams can get over a lose of a starting qb, but most of those teams are pretty well built up, we just aren't quite there yet.

i want to be clear this doesn't mean Lynch, Shanahan, and Saleh don't deserve blame for mistakes and whats happening at some level. They have made mistakes: Shanny's game management, Lynch's pick of Solly, and Saleh's horrendous usage of personnel and inability to develop young talent. But lets be honest, once Jimmy went down this became one very long preseason for 2019.

Agreed. But Belichick makes mistakes and Brady throws picks. Nobody's gonna be perfect in football and the draft will always somewhat of a crapshoot. Only couch GM's on Webzone expect everything to be perfect.

While I agree with that sentiment, missing on the 3rd overall pick is just terrible and can't be overlooked. He should just be glad we got reuben(who isn't playing great right now, but I think he will return to form as the season progresses) and kittle from it so far. Hopefully at least one more quality starter can emerge from that draft, along with breida as a UDFA, it'll make it a more than solid draft class.

Andrew Norwell is playing below...ready for this...Mike Person who's a top 10 G per PFF. Insane.

I understood fans who said we can "get by" with average G's as long as you have premier C's and T's but the reality is Person is playing as a top 10 G right now. Tomlinson is moving up the ranks too playing at a top 20 level. Wow. Who saw that coming???

Ironically, Richburg has been the slowest to hit his talent level compared to the other 4 starters.

I'd still love to have Norwell because of his age and he's getting better every week in a new offense as he has all pro talent but as 9er fans, you gotta be loving the way this unit has played through injury and grown together.

That's simply not true... he was seen as a bad fit schematically. Kyle's scheme is typically undersized and highly mobile OG. Norwell is a phone booth power scheme type of OL. If anything he'd do worse in our scheme. He's like a Trent Brown at OG.
