If this is the case, that Shanahan chose Lynch, then I seriously question his judgement. As a first time HC Shanahan should be looking to surround himself with QUALIFIED, CAPABLE and EXPERIENCED people to help run the organization, fill in his own gaps and set himself up for success as much as possible. This smacks of hiring people who impress in an interview but lack the experience to do the job.
And York isn't blameless here. He should be looking to rebuild both the capability and reputation of his front office by hiring respected, qualified and experienced football management. Instead he embarrasses multiple qualified GMs by passing them over for a former player turned commentator with ZERO football management experience and his current staff by telling them "you're not qualified but this guy is". Now we're in a position to try and find qualified execs to come in and teach Lynch etc how to do their jobs. GFL on that!
Dynasty to Disaster is just a York away.
Gamble has been retained along with the rest of the scouting staff.
The annoucement is LESS THAN 24 hours old and hires haven't been made yet. Judgement is already being questioned? Really?
Yes really. What does a John Lynch bring to the table other than the need to hire people to do the job he was hired for? He has no personnel experience, no operations experience, no scouting experience.... he is uniquely unqualified for the job other than he has strong leadership skills. Why not go out and find a GM who has all of the technical and personal competencies necessary to do the job? Why not find a GM who raises the profile of the organization within NFL circles, who has experience dealing with agents, negotiating contracts and can view both the player and the organization side of the agreement?
Again I ask you: What does John Lynch bring to this team that didn't reside in any other GM candidate?
Gamble has been asked to stay through the draft and 'prove he should stay with the organization'. What a joke! Gamble is the only one in the building who has run an NFL draft. So, if it's a bad draft Gamble takes the blame giving the new GM a mulligan? If the draft goes well do they cut Gamble loose after saying thanks for your service but we have a new GM on board for the next 6 years? What is Gamble's motivation to stay? He's been told he won't be GM here and he now reports to someone with less experience managing football personnel decisions than the intern and who was given a 6 year contract. How is that for "winning with class"?

I agree. What a ridiculous hire. Clearly, they want somebody who is too busy learning on the job to tell senior management to piss off when its warranted. It's like they value control more than winning and ability.
I also agree with your opinion on Gamble and wouldn't be shocked to see him leave. They are already framing it as a "prove it" draft in the media. What his motivation to stay? If he does a great job, Lynch gets the credit. If he does a poor job, or is overridden by a guy who doesn't know what he's doing and the draft sucks he will be the fall guy. What is the point? Gamble should abandon ship now before management makes him walk the plank as the scapegoat.
