This is something that has been discussed for awhile on these forums so I decided to make a poll and have a thread for whether the team, say they have a Top 10 pick in the draft, should prioritize drafting a QB or WR, with both being fairly equal prospects.
My position has always been that the right QB can make everyone better on the offense. The threat of the pass doesn't allow the defense to stack the box, proper accuracy and ball placement allows even average or lesser receivers to make plays and being decisive and consistently getting the ball out quickly helps make the OL look better than it actually is. I think especially in a passing league, having the right QB is of crucial importance, especially with defenses running so many looks nowadays, you want someone confident, that can decipher what a defense is doing and can constantly attack the weak spots in that defense, someone that opposing fans and coaches alike have to worry about.
I've just never been on board with the emphasis on WR's. You need WR talent, and this team needs upgrades in that area but teams like Pittsburgh having the right offensive scheme and the right quarterback have consistently done well taking later round wide receivers. But ultimately to me the QB is the biggest determinant of success along with the quality of a defense. This team hasn't had any consistent QB play going back over 12 years. They've had effective receivers such as Crabtree, Boldin and Vernon Davis but continually lacked in that true franchise quarterback and with Kelly's offense, finding the right guy that he can coach up, that can help push the offense to reach its full potential would be a sight to see.

QB. Not saying all time greats grow on trees but if you have one you can get really good production out of your WR corps.

Man the was Cleveland looks right now they're a shoe in for #1 overall and Watson. Any other QB taken early is going to come with a lot of questions.
A better option may just be to go after a QB in FA or through trade and take a guy like Garrett.

Wasn't a particularly strong QB class. Dak has been a little bit of a surprise other than that what QB should he have taken in the first 3 rounds.
Still doesn't have a TD pass in two games, not really impressed with him.
But definitely QB. Our WRs are "okay", nothing special, but getting a good QB will help make them better.
It's easier to address the WR position though (unless you're Baalke) than the QB position.
The question this year was really - if you think either Goff or Wentz had the potential to be a franchise QB, you trade up. If not, shoot for a project and see. We obviously didn't think either of the top two were special enough to merit giving up multiple first rounders.
I will say this: I have no idea how Baalke grades the position. He wasn't responsible for Alex Smith. He wanted Ponder in 2011 but passed on him for Aldon. He liked Dalton over Kap but deferred to Harbaugh. Then we thought we had a franchise QB but he regressed.
Now I think it is Chip's call. There is no way Baake takes a QB that Chip doesn't want. Chip has gotten good production out of guys that aren't franchise type players. After seeing our roster this year, I would think if we have a shot at one of the top QBs coming out we pull the trigger.

Who voted "WR"? And please explain yourselves.

We have a great example of which is more important and saw it yesterday. A WR can be open but if the QB can't throw an accurate pass the receivers talent is wasted. On the other hand, a guy like Brady makes almost every receiver better.

They have had a stable system in place, good coaching and a top 5 quarterback, all of that makes it a lot easier for them to develop receivers. They draft guys, develop them, insert them into their system, those guys leave, they replace them with other receivers. Its been awhile since they've used an early pick on a receiver, they consistently draft guys every single year in the 3rd to 4th rounds and feature a very WR friendly offense with lots of targets to go around.

It really isn't an "either or" proposition. QB is generally the more important but it is a stretch to say a great QB can turn an average receiver into great. Take last year in Green Bay as an example. Rodgers lost Jordy Nelson in pre-season and then Randall Cobb was not healthy most of the year. Devonte Adams was still a developmental project.
The result? Rodgers worst year as a pro.

Easy for me say QB but it's the hardest position to develop which is our predicament.

Quarterback.
A good QB can improve the receiver corps to some degree, and is the basis for any offense.
Despite what happened in Philadelphia, I actually look forward to Chip having some input on personnel.
I was worried about him leading our team, but he's been growing on me, and I think he can help put together a good offense.

a nice consistent QB would be great but where do we find one?? Sure as hell not in this next draft. (and yes you're f**kign kidding yourself if you think Kizer or Watson would be the answer)
I would like to see some actual WR's on this team. No T. Smith. enough with this guy.
An accurate QB is in need, but we have so many holes. We need a TE that can catch, need another RB to compliment Hyde. (some kid from LSU sounds pretty nice lol, and i am not worried about his miles)
Need a few WR's that can run solid routes & sell them too. We need a NT & an ILB. Folks we have too many needs. going to take some time.
I'd say QB, but who is the biggest ?.

I would rather keep a guy like Gabbert and draft a project QB next offseason if we don't go via F/A. It would be a waste to throw out a rookie on this roster and expect him to succeed, it would be more like setting him up to fail.
