a nice consistent QB would be great but where do we find one?? Sure as hell not in this next draft. (and yes you're f**kign kidding yourself if you think Kizer or Watson would be the answer)
lol. I'd love to hear about the hours of film study you based this conclusion upon.

I say this all the time, you need to take a QB in the first 3 rounds every year until you have your guy. Then after that, you still need to burn high picks on a QB every couple of years. The position is too important to let slide. Look at the Pats, Brady out, Jimmy G in, Jimmy G down, a second round (I believe) pick right there to step in.
You can always get value in a trade for a young QB, even if he only rode the pine, and saw limited action, crappy teams are always desperate enough to cough up picks for a bench warmer, who might be their answer. Cant go wrong stockpiling QB's. If we had been doing this really since the Alex Smith draft, we would have found some one better than what we have now. Going forward, there is no reason this team does not burn a 2-3rd next season on a QB, hell maybe out top pick if need be.

I'd agree we need more size at the WR position...but our defense had no answer for Cam or Benjamin. They got no pressure on Cam...and he had a field day picking apart our D. The game may well have been much closer had McDonald held onto what should've been his 2nd TD pass. While the OL did a credible job of pass protection, they couldn't open holes for our RB's. So, there are a lot of teaching points this week in preparation for Seattle...and they all go well beyond the QB and WR positions.

It really isn't an "either or" proposition. QB is generally the more important but it is a stretch to say a great QB can turn an average receiver into great. Take last year in Green Bay as an example. Rodgers lost Jordy Nelson in pre-season and then Randall Cobb was not healthy most of the year. Devonte Adams was still a developmental project.
The result? Rodgers worst year as a pro.
But those weren't "average" WRs, those were PS guys who probably shouldn't have even been on the depth chart of any NFL team. An "average WR" to me is Edelman who would not be effective on an average team with an average QB.

I won't debate individual cases because that is not my point, which is; every QB, even the great ones, that does not have reliable receivers will see a drop off in performance. I think that goes without saying. In the case of the 49ers, other than Torrey Smith, not one of the current 49er receivers is going to cause any DC to lose any sleep worrying about how to shut them down. Even in the case of Smith, as we have seen, he can be doubled and taken out of the game. That is what happens when you do not have a decent GROUP of receivers.

And say you do have a decent group of receivers but Gabbert is still your quarterback, that DC still isn't losing any sleep.
Without an absolutely dominant defense, a mediocre QB only gets you so far in this league.
