Like I said, if a QB lowers his head in the pocket and a roughing flag is thrown, that needs to be reviewable. The defender can only do so much. If a QB ducks he is knowingly putting himself in danger. I understand it is reflex, but by ducking the head, the QB is lowering his head into the defender's strike zone. That should not be a foul.

Again, I get the penalty as called. But the rule needs to be changed.

Agree 100%

Unlike the NBA, which has full time officials, the NFL has part time refs. And although those NFL officials go to officials school, attend meetings, have a solid officiating background, and are rated on their game performance, and are paid good $$, they still don't spend as much time learning, studying and practicing their craft as other leagues do for their Full time Refs. and it shows.

Yep. An NFL ref should be a full time gig with the threat of losing your job if you keep blowing calls. They have no stake in getting correct calls since they have jobs to fall back on.

If dial had his crown lowered, I'd be 100% in support of a roughing call. But he literally executed a textbook tackle according to the league. Head up, wrapped up, and went the through the torso.

I saw palmers hairline! But the helmet didn't move. Not to mention the chinstrap blindfold.

Chinstrap around his nose and eyes? Totally normal only moved a little.
When you're struggling to win games, this kind of crap happens. I came in very late in the game just after a defensive penalty...so didn't see the mess Boldin referred to. One thing I've noticed all season is the inconsistency from the officials. Some games they let 'em play...very few interference, defensive holding or my "favorite" penalty illegal contact, which has to be the dumbest penalty the NFL's every come up with. Other games like today, it seems like the officials are getting extra pay for each flag they throw. It's too bad they had to show their ineptitude in a game we might've won had they not rained yellow on us.

Textbook tackle. That is how it is taught. Head up, wrap up, through the chest and torso; the problem is Palmer ducks his head at the last second causing his helmet to launch upward.

It really should be a reviewable call. If the QB Ducks his head, it should not be the fault of the defender. The defender is attempting to tackle according to NFL protocol. If a QB dips his head, that is on the QB.

agree, but it's not reviewable, it's a penalty with today's rules. it's b******t, but it's the way it is.
a change to this was discussed at the league meetings last year. when it costs one of the most-favored teams a game they will probably look at it more intently
Just to be an A$$, and a Pain in the Butt, I'm e-mailing the NFL office in Manhattan in the
morning, with this picture, and .gif. I know it probably won't matter, but gonna' do it anyway:

Unfortunately this is the truth. The Niners aren't in competition for the playoffs so this will get brushed under the rug. But the league needs to get officiating under control because it is degrading quite rapidly. There have been a number of gaffes in prime time games and it is only a matter of time u too one of those wind up clearly costing a team a game.

If I didn't love the Niners and football as much as I do, this season would probably be a turning point in my viewership. I don't really care about the NFL being a "tough" guy's game and that the players just need to be able to "play." But I expect consistency and fairness in officiating and it's becoming increasingly harder to see that each week.

I constantly go back to what Bellichick has said. Every call needs to be reviewable. Don't increase the number of challenges, just allow anything to be reviewed. The NFL hates that idea because it will truly expose the incompetence of officiating crews.
