Textbook tackle. That is how it is taught. Head up, wrap up, through the chest and torso; the problem is Palmer ducks his head at the last second causing his helmet to launch upward.
It really should be a reviewable call. If the QB Ducks his head, it should not be the fault of the defender. The defender is attempting to tackle according to NFL protocol. If a QB dips his head, that is on the QB.
agree, but it's not reviewable, it's a penalty with today's rules. it's b******t, but it's the way it is.
a change to this was discussed at the league meetings last year. when it costs one of the most-favored teams a game they will probably look at it more intently
Unfortunately this is the truth. The Niners aren't in competition for the playoffs so this will get brushed under the rug. But the league needs to get officiating under control because it is degrading quite rapidly. There have been a number of gaffes in prime time games and it is only a matter of time u too one of those wind up clearly costing a team a game.
If I didn't love the Niners and football as much as I do, this season would probably be a turning point in my viewership. I don't really care about the NFL being a "tough" guy's game and that the players just need to be able to "play." But I expect consistency and fairness in officiating and it's becoming increasingly harder to see that each week.
I constantly go back to what Bellichick has said. Every call needs to be reviewable. Don't increase the number of challenges, just allow anything to be reviewed. The NFL hates that idea because it will truly expose the incompetence of officiating crews.
