When should we write off the season | Page 7

Im only a new niners fan but cant believe the amount of negativity and pessimistic view of what lies ahead. I have followed the NFL since the 80's but never adopted a team as my own, being a Aussie and following the Eels, the signing of Hayne finally gave me a connection with a team so the niners are now my team. The clubs have similar histories winning their first championship in the early 80's and dominating the decade but haven't regained the same level of dominance since. Every new season brings hope that maybe this year will be our year and every year I believe it might be right up until it becomes mathematically impossible for them to pull it off. I see a lot of niners fans have already written them off for this season the same thing happened to the Eels in 09. New coach, lost our half (QB) as the regular season started and after 18 of 26 rounds we had just 5 wins. We won the next 8 straight to make the play offs before loosing the last regular season game 37-0 to the team we had to play the first week of the play offs. We won convincingly the following week, the week after won again against a team that we had never beaten in history and again the week after to qualify for the grand final (SB). We lost the grand final but 6 months later the tittle was stripped form the winners for massive salary cap rorting. I guess what Im saying is keep the faith, there is always hope how ever unlikely it looks. There is also a bit of a connection between the Eels of 09 and this years 49ers. Most attribute the turn around in the Eels season to one man and he is now playing for SF. Hayne won 6 consecutive man of the match awards to lead the eels into the play offs and be voted the leagues MVP. Im not saying he can do that this year for SF although Im sure he will trying to play a part but he certainly knows that while ever there is a chance how ever slim it can be done. If Kap can find some form there is no reason he couldn't do something similar.

In the Cardinals last Super Bowl season, they gave up 56 points earlier in the season and then suffered embarrassing blowouts to end the year, losing at home 35-14 against Minnesota, and then 47-7 against New England.

Teams can turn things around. I've seen it way too many times to start jumping to conclusions now, because plain and simple, no matter what we think on either end, there are reasons to believe it could go either way, so we'll have to be patient, even though we can't help that we're not.

We just don't know right now. Give it time.

I admire your patience guys. I am just hoping the Niners can come out with something different to make this a competitive NFL matchup. Watching another blowout would be ridiculous.

While the Bears are already cleaning house for next season, I too, am trying to put some kinda package together here to make some trades and get better next year..

Losing the players that we lost to retirement and free agency was the biggest issue. OK Trent and York need to shoulder the blame. Coam Tom is just doing what he can with what he has as are the coords. It's hard to blame the coaches when it is a personnel problem. You can have the best staff with our team right now and things wouldn't be much brighter. York and Trent are the ones to blame. They are going the cheapest route. Turned down good coaches.

I have already written it off.

I hated this coaching staff when it was assembled. I like JimmyT, but feel he is in over his head. I hated the Jeep and Mangina hires as well and so far those feelings have been validated.

I have given up on Kap. Dude just doesn't have "IT". Career back up once the SF experiment is over.

The 49ers are likely to limp in to the worst record in the NFL this year once the team gives up after comlleting the 3peat of 40+ point blowouts.

The FO should shoulder the blame for not bringing in even adequate replacements over the past 4 years.

For all the finds in the draft, and there were some, it's the consistent misses in the draft that are the main thing biting us in the @$$ at this moment.

I'm not writing the team off yet, but I can't honestly argue against those who are already writing this season off.

Honestly, I don't even know what people mean by 'write off the season.' You're acting like it's a bad investment or something. It is what it is. It's probably going to be a very bad season, but so what. I root for the Niners every year. I never stop rooting for them. I've rooted for them during 2-14 seasons and I've rooted for them during 15-1 seasons. It's probably not going to be a successful season, but it's over when it's over unless you're just a bandwagoner.

Can't say how others see it, but in my mind the term means accepting that this won't be a winning season. Not ditching my association with the team.

I was born at the beginning of the great years and have been there for the great, good, bad, alright, horrible, bad, good, and looking like bad seasons.

The 49ers are my team and I'm not going to leave, no matter how ugly it could get.

Write off in terms of accepting that this team is not a viable contender...or just any good in general? yes. and that was rough. having to accept that the championship window was closed after they came so close for 3 years. And having to accept the fact that the FO may just really be a clueless cluster f*ck and that Jed is still a York when it comes down to it. If that is the case i don't see this thing turning around anytime soon. They appear to be a very poor team, with poor coaching and poor ownership....just a poor franchise overall currently
Write off in terms of not watching them? Absolutely not. I've watched some horrendous 49er football in my 36 years, so i can take it.

The schedule so far has been brutal and 1-3 is not surprising. What's really bad is the way they lost and the point differential. If the team loses to the Giants next, who are an average team, then its time to write off the season. A very hopeful fan can extend it to Week 6 Seahawks. After that, it's #SuckforGoff time. It's not about "giving up" on the season, it's about recognizing the mathematical improbability of going on a 8-10 game winning streak and getting a wildcard spot only to lose in the first round. Set yourself up for the future and rebound after 12 years of bad-to-mediocre quarterbacking.
