My expectations aren't high, maybe a top 20 defense. It's gonna be a long season if the NT position takes a hit with injuries. They had a chance to nail down the position with Wilfork being a free agent and the draft, still holding out hope for Dorsey and Ian Williams I guess. smh

I was hoping we'd pick up Terence Knighton. He was damn near unstoppable against the Hawks in a very lopsided SB.

Yeah I also thought Knighton made sense for us. Baalke and Jimmy T. must really like our D-Line when healthy. I would too but we haven't been able to stay relatively healthy in two years.

I was hoping for Knighton too, I can't believe how cheap the Redskins signed him for 1 year 4 million, where the heck is the risk for that!!!

Dan Williams, Terrance Knighton and Vince Wilfork all on the market that came cheap. Not to mention Malcom Brown, Carl Davis and Eddie Goldman were right there for the taking. Wow!!!!

I guess we'll just have to assume that our new HC thinks we have the horses we need. Hopefully Tomsula is making a choice based on experience and not loyalty.

True. If healthy, I really like Ian Williams at NT. He's very underrated, just needs to stay healthy.

Same thing with Dorsey. He did a very good job at NT in 2013, so he could fill in there too. Should play well at DE in base defense this year.

Dial is a stud in the making imo. Absolute steal in the 5th round with his size and ability.

I agree about Dial he has looked very good. I wish we would have spent some money on a NT. Not a lot but just invested a little more. I have to assume they have seen Dorsey and Williams progress well coming back from injury and maybe Mangini's scheme doesn't require a lot of play from the NT position like the last few years. Or maybe he plays more four man line sets either way I thought we had an opportunity there to pick up another NT on the cheap and didn't take advantage of it. Maybe Tomsula thinks he has something in Purcell, Ramsey and Garrison Smith. I really liked the Smith pick up he played very well for Georgia two years ago occupying a lot of double teams for that D-Line. Unfortunately if he gets a shot it means we had a rash of injuries.
Red Bryant is still out there. This guy killed us for years, he can't be moved.

I've always assumed that Mangini would want a bigger NT than the ones that we currently have on the roster.

I've always thought that Ian was a tad undersized for a NT, in the 3-4, but he's always graded out pretty well, when healthy, on PFF.

He was good when he played heads up over Right Tackle and kinda mediocre in the middle IMO.
IMHO I think this defense will be rank #1 overall. The defense is built to be very aggressive there is a lot of speed and good tacklers in the secondary. Reaser & Ackers are gonna turn heads book it, hopefully jonhson and ward can build on from year 1.The D line is constructed of players that can get after the QB. NT is really not an issue with dorsey & Williams coming back from injury and dial being able to fill in would be a nice rotation, with tank dockett jerod-eddie and armstead rotating @ the ends position I'm feeling really good about the line. I think safe to say we probably have the best collection LB in the game. With Mangini as DC I think the bend do no break model will be replace with a more seek and destroy model (or something along those lines) given all the turn over on this side of the ball I can't wait til this defense shocks the world.

My feeling is they felt we were 3-deep at NT with Dorsey, Williams, and Dial. All of those guys, in my opinion, are a lock for the final roster. I know Williams has had health struggles, but I think the depth behind him allows us to be more comfortable. I think he was hurt on a couple freak instances, and I think there's more a chance of him staying healthy than getting hurt again. But, that's just me.
Im worried about our corners

Our CBs could actually end up being one of our deepest positions
I ended up seeing both Dorsey and Dockett on south beach yesterday, Dorsey doesn't look like your typical mammoth NT but Dockett looks huge. Felt like a groupie LOL!
