Purcell will make the team.
A RB will be traded or cut. Most likely it will be Hunter traded to a team hurting for a RB.
WR White will be stashed on the PS if he makes it that far. If he makes the team Simpson will be cut. They are too redundant.
Wright might be cut. He sucks and the young players shown that they are better than him.

Which poster are you speaking to?

Yeah Okoye has a real legit chance of making the 53...so does Purcell. If so, a WR or RB is most likely coming off the board.

White's been killing it in practice but is he a gamer?

Wright and his contract will not be cut. How about Dres?

I'm with you...could see Hunter and Celek on the trading block.

I'm kind of with you on Hunter. Love the guy, and he's had flashes of brilliance, but I think he's a real strong candidate for a trade. Hyde, Bush, Davis and Hayne seems like a quality backfield. Unfortunately Hunter is probably the odd man out.

I also think Patton will be a candidate for a trade as well. I absolutely love him, but I think Ellington fills a similar role and is a bit more dynamic if he can get healthy.

With the emergence of Davis and his upside esp. running out of a ZBS, Hunter could be a strong candidate to be traded...same with Celek...same with Purcell...same with Patton (less likely). Those are my top 4 that could be traded or become surprise cuts. And this isn't a slight to them...it's more about the talent and depth in front of them (esp. youth and upside and longer/cheaper contracted players in front of them).

Out of this group I like Purcell to stay--if he continues to excel. Williams and Dorsey were both injured last year and they could use another stout presence in the middle. That would also allow Dorsey to concentrate outside.

I love Hunter but Bush is an elite version of Hunter...just don't see them cutting Hayne. Patton may make it if we are "camp blind" over the young rookie receivers. We tend to love guys like White and forget that he wasn't drafted high for a reason. Patton knows the team and may have an edge we can't see in day to day news blurbs.

I rather keep someone like Marcus Rush or Kendall Gaskins or even Marcus Cromartie on the P.S. over this dude.

Dres Anderson is a technician in his route running with a high ceiling and he catches everything; he hasn't gotten the press White has though but he's right there. My guess is that he's right on the bubble as well...could remove him for Okoye, Tiller, Purcell, etc. But with Simpson out for 6 weeks, it opens up a chance to keep him on the roster and then when Simpson comes back, move him to the PS less detected. He'd most likely be inactive anyhow but this would be a good way to stash him while continuing to develop him IMHO.

There is nothing wrong with developing young players. Sometimes u hit N sometimes u miss, but to say he has earned a roster spot over guys that have worked their tail off during camp just isnt fair. P.S. at best, even if he does find a way to squeeze onto the 53 man roster he probably will be one of the inactives every week until Simpson returns from his suspension.

Agreed...nothing definitive yet...still a few weeks to and few more edits along the way.

I agree, having Purcell will ensure Dorsey and Dial can relax and focus on just the end positions. Your other points are spot on as well. Patton really struggles outside and he too, IMHO is best suited for the slot...but is he going to beat out Ellington and White there? I love the kid but he needs a TON of work outside to be an effective X or Z in the NFL should Boldin or T.Smith go down. He would need to be schemed open if he has to start.

The problem with this is that we know about two percent of what is going on at camp. Yes, we get reporters views of who make highlight reel catches or who the coaches pat on the back, but if Anderson is running the correct route every time, making the most of every opportunity but not getting much attention...which beat writers would know this let alone write about it? White has been singled out consistently...he was also consistently injured in college. I wouldn't even be surprised if one of the other rookie WRs in camp jumped up all of a sudden and took a spot...well...maybe a bit surprised...LOL!

I like Anderson for his size, speed and maturity...but he had drops in college and was injured, and that's why the niners were able to get him.

This...unless you were "watching film" like some of us, you would have never predicted Dillon Farrell or L.J. McCray making the team last year (as examples). Right now those two overlooked players may be Trey Millard and Dres Anderson.

Can't wait for everyone to raid our practice squad. We should have one of the top squads in the league as usual and by the time we get done we will be left with our 3rd/4th choices. I'd hate to see guys like Busta Anderson, Purcell, Okoye, Millard, Hayne, Farrell, Silberman, Dres Anderson, D. White, etc end up on it because if so you can wave goodbye. When will the nfl bump the rosters from 53 to at least 55, heck it should be 56-57 or more. Same with the 7 inactives, all that does is keep bubble guys from showcasing their stuff.

Ncommand, I'll add in TJE a few years back and Will Tukuafu the year before to your list (referring to your post above mine). There are always surprises come final cut downs but if you watch enough film you won't be surprised when these guys make the roster.

Great post and excellent calls on TJE and Will T.

-25 Offense-
QB: Kap, Gabbert
RB: Hyde, Bush, Davis, Hayne (Trade Hunter?)
FB: Miller, Millard (millard needs to show something, versatile but many guys are)
OL: Staley, Boone, Kilgore, Martin, Pears, Looney, Thomas, Brown, Silberman (Kilgore to PUP means room for Silberman and Farrell?)
TE: Davis, McDonald, Bell (celek or busta anderson could make it as well)
WR: Smith, Boldin, Patton, Ellington, White (Simpson to suspended list doesn't count)

-25 Defense-
DL: Dorsey, Williams, Dial, Carradine, Dockett, Armstead, Purcell
ILB: Bowman, Wilhoite, Moody, Bellore (ST only) - dont be surprised if we keep 5 and bishop/skov are #4
OLB: Lynch, Brooks, Harold, Lemonier (lemon will be hot on his heels but maybe not enough time)
CB: Brock, Johnson, Ward, Wright, Reaser, Acker
S: Reid, Bethea, Tartt, McCray

-3 ST-
K: Dawson P: Pinion LS: Nelson

After week 2 it's getting tougher to decide if McCray or Dahl makes the roster but McCray is younger and cheaper so hopefully it's him. McCray has been hitting hard, playing gunner well and doing a decent job at safety. Dahl with a pick tonight so that helps his case. I'm starting to think for sure 1 will make the roster. Acker and Reaser are locks at CB if we are smart.

Starting to wonder if Lemon will have enough time to make a case to beat out Lemonier. If Lemonier was a 6th round pick a few years back instead of a 3rd I'd say yes but a 3rd probably not.

Wondering if Bishop or Skov will be the 4th LB behind Moody (seems like a near lock) and Bellore ends up 5th for ST. Do we even keep 5? Could keep 4.

Purcell should have played his way onto the roster as the 7th DL over Okoye, TJE and Ramsey. We are nuts if we keep 7 and it's not Purcell (or Okoye). Could also keep 6 though.

Kind of wondering if Simpson wasnt suspended would Patton make the team? Same with White who hasn't done much on the field but in practice gets rave reviews. Patton had the punt block td tonight but neither has done much at wr. I think one could be gone when Simpson gets back week 7.

Still not sure if we keep 3 or 4 te's. Celek is one of those too good to cut but not good enough to keep guys.

Silberman or Farrell should be the last spot on the OL if we 9. The other 8 I think are locks. Kilgore could go PUP too and that would free a spot up so both could make it until Kilgore gets back week 7.

Millard or Hunter as it seems Hayne is becoming a lock. You keep him or lose him no ps anymore.

Some of my 'surprises' -

Looney & Lemonier out.
Dres Anderson and Darius Davis making it over Simpson
Garrett Celek and Derek Carrier out, but if i had a choice, Vance would be traded and we would keep Carrier
Pinion over Lee strictly for cap space

bump after a couple months.

On the niners site they list DTs, DLs and NT. Purcell, Williams and Smith are listed as NTs while all the rest are DTs or DL Dorsey can fill in at NT but they probably prefer he stay outside, which would open a spot for Purcell at NT. This would mean five DTs/DLs if they keep the seven you suggest.

When they go to a four or five man line they can go either heavy (goal line) or light using OLBs at DE...as they have done in the Harbaugh era. The goal line stands seem to indicate they have the beef they need, now if they can use Lynch in the Aldon role when he put his hand down...
