What does that even mean? It's like WAR in baseball.

AA should retired a 49er.

Again, this is flat-out wrong. Dee Ford was never a base player. Arik Armstead has been a base strong end/big end since 2017. LDT in Kocurek's wide 9 base(over alignment) is the 3tech, which was Defo in 2019 and Kinlaw in 2020. Unless they plan to move Kinlaw to nose, AA will play edge again in base in 2021.

Let's not make s**t up to justify substantially overpaying a mediocre player.

Yeah Hero is correct here.

why hasn't this sack of s**t's contract been restructured???? it's utterly ridiculous that he's one of the highest payed defenders.

I randomly stumbled across some 49ers' fan page on Instagram where they had a post about AA's cap hits in the next couple of years. People were going ballistic in the comments.

There's a clause where we can get out of the contract before the 2023 season

I know hindsight is 20/20 but we really screwed up by going with this bum over paying Buckner. We at one time had a defensive line of Ford, AA, Buckner and Bosa. Now we have a defensive line full of question marks. Is Ford done? Was AA a one year wonder making his money off one on one match ups? Kinlaw flashed, will he continue to improve? How are Kinlaw's knees? Will Bosa be better, worse or the same after his injury? If we paid Buckner at least we would know for certain we got one stud that is gonna be ready to go game 1 2021.

It isn't hindsight if was obvious at the time as well.

Getting rid of Buckner was a bad move and signing AA was another bad move

It means what we have known for years. He is a really good run defender. Not much as a pass rusher unless there are two other guys around him getting the attention of the offense.

i assume he is doing ping pong drills to get ready for the season
I'm hoping he gets a few more pat downs this season we need to continue to develop him. He was most if not all of the D last season. 99 percent of the time he's tripled teamed stats don't mean nothing

100% agreed. Not to mention it was AA's contract year. you never pay a guy who just happens to get 10 sacks when it's time to get paid.

lol his cap hit is $20 million in 2022. He needs to play like it's 2019.

Most times that a contract gets restructured it lowers the cap hit but it makes the player more difficult to cut (more dead cap). Is that what we want?
