Where do you expect our defense to be Ranked this season?

If the defense actually does end up top ten and the offense shows serious improvement, possibly up into the low teens, this team will contend this year.

It's going to take more than just hoping in the draft picks. I think the loss of Tomsula coaching the dline is going to have a bigger impact than most expect.

Biggest questions for me is whether Dial and Tank are ready to assume larger roles, especially Dial. I don't see Dockett as a three down lineman and someone has to be stout against the run on 1st/2nd downs at LDE. Hope to have Dorsey and IWilliams healthy for a full season. That has never happened. I'm assuming Justin is back. Bow and Wilhoite will be a solid tandem at ILB. Love the OLB depth with a full season of Aldon, Lynch on the uptick, and Brooks pushing for playing time. The safeties are the strength of the secondary. Brock needs to return to 2013 Brock. Biggest defensive camp competition could be at RCB. Shouldn't be a large change in scheme with Mangini. Top 10.

i also said, we have guys in place to step in now on our roster. now i am sure you will manage to find a way to twist my words but based upon the PRODUCTION we got from people like ray and yes willis,, i think we will be able to find replacements if they are not here already,, in regards to cornerbacks, we have a really good coach back there and i think we will continue our trend of producing in that area. for the last two years we have lost corners and always turn out ok.. and we also replaced a good coach back there with a good coach. the coach will not micromanage, like some coaches, but i am sure he will not let his baby spring leaks

I actually think this is a fair point. Tomsula is going to be very much focused on ALL positions and will literally, have his hands (on approach) in every position now. That said, almost all of the guys have already been developed: Justin, Dockett, Dial (LDE), Tank (RDE), Williams/Dorsey, TJE, etc. The only guys right now who need ANY development is Ramsey and Okoye. You'd think Scott Brown & Aubrayo Franklin would make for a fine tandem though and you KNOW Tomsula will still be popping in to monitor development in an area of expertise.

With Bow and Aldon playing all season?! Top 5 for sure! I think Ray Mac was overrated, he benefited from playing with Aldon/Brooks/Justin. As far as maybe/maybe not losing Justin, I don't think it will matter. Dockett, Williams, Dorsey (was very solid for is in his first year as a 49er), Dial, and Tank is just as good as what we had before. We just need to land a BEAST in the draft (Williams, Brown, Shelton, or Armstead). Even if we settle for a dline man later we will be good. We have Aldon, Brooks, and Lynch outside rushing and you have to double team at least on of those guys. Our rotation game will be SICK.

I agree on Dial. I think he has the ability to be an ideal 3-4 DE from what i have seen. He is good against the run, seems to command double teams, but what has impressed me the most in his limited time is his ability to get into the backfield and on a few occassions last year he broke into the backfield, sniffed out the screen pass and immediately went into the flat to cover the screen.

Jesus Christ. 45 different players? I had no idea it was THAT high. I think Fangio worked magic last year for all the injuries we had as well to remain top 5 but 45 different players is insane! To rank 17th in points, that's pretty damn good to say the least, right?

Either way, the point is to avoid these SuicidePosters, recognize the TALENT on this team that you all could see with your own two eyes last year (unless you're D.Smith ) and give these Coordinators a chance to do nothing more than maximize the talent and strengths of our players. I'm not saying they will or won't but talent is talent...it can usually be successful in any system and often times, overcome poor coordinating. We've seen that before here.
