Anticipation throwing is a skill-set that can exist largely independently from decision making and ball placement/accuracy.

I don't think we are arguing the same point. What I'm trying to say is that yes, Kaep should work on this skill set but, I don't think it is as big of an issue as what your original post might have made it seem. He has other more important issues such as getting down his reads so that they are more automatic. I think that solving that will by definition allow him to make those anticipation throws.

well said cc and NC. I never quite figured out how we had such a stellar OL, when our QB got NO as in zippo protection. Sure, Iupati could run block, but that is just 50% of the game. Harbaw was happy with the OL blocking for frank, but our QBs got short shrift. I guess one could say our OL was top 5 run blocking, bottom of barrel on qB pass pro.

Agree! It seemed that the culture of the team was either blame the QB or the OL didn't respect/like Kaepernick. Either way they didn't seem to mind that he was being battered. Would really like to see some fire from the OL when there's a sack. Put some passrushers on their backs. The team needs a guy like Jeremy Newberry...tough and angry as a player.

This and add a Kevin Gogan to the mix.

You can't make anticipation throws on time like that unless your, "decision making" is fast enough to leave time for the throw. When you the make that throw your accuracy must be on point because that defender that was just in coverage isn't too far behind. They are all dependent on each other.

Now that would be a line to fear! LOL! But would they make it through the season without all being suspended?

I hated watching him get sacked so much last year, sometimes it seemed like the rush, beat the ball

That's was based on poor oline and poor play calling.
I was watching the raider game with my raider friend and he turned to me and stated: "wow, the 49ers line is having an off game." I burst out laughing and told him this was one of their better showings this season. ...

Line was poor no doubt. They got beat so bad several times per game.

My prediction for Kap this year
4700 passing yards
28 tds
350 rushing yards
3 rushing tds

and 3-0 vs. Seattle, including the playoffs.
2 comments where the 9ers could learn something from the world champs Warriors:

First, 3-4 pages back there were some comments re: having our WRs do WAY better getting open when Kap gets bullrushed. Look at Steph when he doesn't have the ball on O.
Steph was a perpetual motion machine. He ran more without the ball than with it....and he ultimately got open. Now apply that to our WRs when nobody is open and Kap is in trouble. Put some Curry in our WRs when kap is in trouble and we rapidly would get someone open. This one item NEEDS to be a top teaching priority.

Second, as noted 3-4 pages ago also, NC noted that the correct thing to do when we were threatening to score from the 7 yd line, but having trouble doing so, was to have taken a T.O. Look at Steve kerr when the Warriors were on the wrong side of a 12 -0 run. Immediately kerr calls T.O. So , sure, kap can improve, WRs can improve, OL can improve, blah , blah. But more times than i can remember, what we really needed was a good strategic T.O. Ok, it was a coacing failure, but there were many times that uncalled T.O. would have been extremely helpful.. Refocus the OL, WRs, QB, heck, everybody....and then send them back out there. Nobody made much in the line of comments re: all those T.O.s that never got called.

This is just one more reason why i am so stoked that JH is no longer here. JT is an unknown to most fans, as well as other teams. Our team, however, knows him well, and are happy to have him as HC. Grounded in basics, if there comes a time we need a strategic T.O., expect JT to do what JH would never have thot of....stop play, talk it over, and start all over, but better this time. Also, look for JT to teach WRs how to break off the play, and do what is needed to get open.

I know ....350 Rushing yards waaaay too low. Put that at 650 yrds and 6 TDs and I think we now have an accurate prediction.
Good points Pasodoc and I believe that's what they are talking about when mentioning WR training...scramble drills and set after the route routes would/will help greatly.

Here's a point of view from a Seattle writer about Kaepernick that CK has to disprove this year (from a link on the home page):

"Kaepernick was last in the NFC last season in fourth-quarter passer rating at 60.3, but his overall passer rating was 86.4. In other words, Kaepernick tends to make bad decisions with the game on the line. Four of his 10 interceptions last season came in the fourth quarter. His yards per play went from 7.4 in the first three quarters to 5.85 in the final quarter. His mechanics didn't change in the fourth quarter, but his thinking process did."

This is based on last year when the wheels were falling off the bus so it should not be seen as purely Kaepernick's mental level. Still troubling though.

Part of Kaep's failure last year was because he was trying to do too much... the expectation got to him early and often.. the early success in his 1st year as a starter, how the media blew him up and made him forget that he still young and inexperience, and last but not the least, the STAR that he wasn't yet.

It was almost like he needed to make a big play and prove to the whole world that he is what they thought he was suppose to be.. the Super Bowl incompletion, the Richard Sherman INT, it was like Kaep was playing against his own ghost and exorcise those demons..

this year, if he plays within the system just like the year he took over after Alex Smith was injured, we should see a Kaep rise from the ashes again..

It wasn't the media, it was harbaugh's fault for Kaeps slight regression
