In Spider 2 Y banana, the FB is your primary target - used to beat man coverage. You'll get a natural pick motion out of VD and Boldin's route.

He's just so inconsistent. When he played within the system, he generally did fine, when he completely botched it and tried to ad-lib the play, the offense stalled.

The safety Woodson was clearly dropping back. That play isn't setup to be a huge gain, just a quick pass to pick up 5 yards and stay out of 2nd and long. Its supposed to be a quick pass, no hesitation. Instead Kaepernick freezes up and then takes off.

The only real differences are that Kaepernick does a better job of selling the playaction and Oakland is in man coverage this time around, giving a little more room for error. Both plays should have worked if the pass comes out quickly.
