I converted it to video from the GIF, Woodson is sitting on that flat route before Kaep flushes left. What we don't know is if Miller is the primary or the outlet.

Miller could have easily gained 3-5 yards with Woodson covering him.

Actually he couldn't have. He's only a few yards off of Miller, given the time it takes the ball to arrive and Woodson break on the route it's most likely a loss of yardage unless Miller shakes Woodson then it's a huge gain.

Yes. He's dropping back in coverage but you can clearly see his hips lined up with the LOS with his eyes focused on Kaep the entire play. Woodson makes a tackle at the LOS or if quick enough, he could defend the pass.

That pass should have been out quickly, allowing Miller to get it, secure it and pick up whatever he could going upfield. It is that hesitation from him to let it rip, to stay within the framework of a play design, instead opting to just take off and try to invent something that is bewildering.

Two things: if Miller is the primary then he's covered by the safety which would result in no GAIN or possibly an interview based on where the coverage is. If he isn't then Kaep either take the sack or throw it OOB instead of trying to make the throw to Crabtree (I originally thought it was Boldin)

The safety Woodson was clearly dropping back. That play isn't setup to be a huge gain, just a quick pass to pick up 5 yards and stay out of 2nd and long. Its supposed to be a quick pass, no hesitation. Instead Kaepernick freezes up and then takes off.

That's exactly what I'm saying. It's not so clear cut when you convert it to video. There's a great chance that ball is picked.

yeah no. QB's all across that league make that play regularly. Its not a play intended to pick up 30 yards, you secure the football and get whatever you can. Even if Miller drops it or only picks up 2 or 3 yards, its a hell of a lot better than throwing a flailing, off balance pass into double coverage.

Kaep didn't give a tried and true play a chance, ran by all NFL teams the last 3+ decades. Ran off and threw a pick. lol

At the moment Kap decided to take off and run, if he had instead thrown it to Miller, its an easy 3-5 yard pickup. Woodson was backing off Miller by then.

What's also interesting is the play action. Kaep play actions left but Gore goes right to pickup the incoming rusher. The question then becomes who missed their assignment, Kaep, gore or the Olinemen? That aspect throws off all the timing. If the ball was to come out 'quick' then play action and a 7 step drop isn't necessary is it?

Yeah. You're right. INT is completely possible if Kaep makes that throw too soon. Woodson was only 2-3 yards away from the line of scrimage until Miller broke his route toward the sideline. When Miller broke toward the outside, Kaep turned left because of pressure and so Woodson started to shift his coverage toward the inside which gives the illusion that Miller is wide open on the play.
Decision Making....Quinton Patton was open

My bet would be on Kaepernick since its something he has commonly done if you go back through the games as well as the film review, running playaction to the wrong side. Its another fault that falls under general awareness.

The pass would have been intercepted before it got to Patton.

That's an assumption though. Why would Gore have to play action AND be assigned to pick up a block? That makes zero sense and it's too difficult. Gore has shown to be great at pass protection which leads me to believe he ad-libbed (sp.) to pick up the rusher. I don't know that to be correct but it's plausible.
Kaep stays on his 'alert' too long. I think that's VD going down the numbers at the bottom. Covered both inside and out. Another one of Kaep's weakness.

You and I both know a rookie, Patton, wasn't ever getting that ball in that situation. He has to be the 3-4 read on that play. True?
