To think you were going to play vs. one of the best defensive lines in the league without your top 2 RGs and be within tying the Vikings is crazy.

There is also a lot of truth in this. Minnesota's front seven is a tough matchup for any OL on a good day. When you lose two guards, it becomes that much more of a challenge.

man, i couldn't have put it better. You just can't chintz on the OL...esp when you have your FR QB.

Man where were you guys at a few months ago when many of us were beating the drum for big changes against a wave of,,,,, the o line is not as bad as you think. we have three first round guard guys. jimmy will make them look better. you are negative.. at least you guys have caught up

I have been complaining about it since the middle of the Harbaugh era when all you guys were carrying Baalke's water!
They did more to improve the line the last two years than the previous 5 IMO. Maybe they could and should have done more but at least they are trying to improve it which is a change in philosophy.

If Garnett is too soft and it's his baby toe he'll be out for two months, if it's the big toe, he'll sit out all year

Suddenly? The McGlinchey draft vs. T. Brown trade is a wash. Richburg replaced one of three interior linemen who were loaded with question marks. Much too risky when you've invested in Jimmy.

agree. it was never fine in the first place, the hope that jimmy will make it look better cuz he did in five games last year went up in smoke sunday, and if you even used that as a basis for the o line this year. well.. that is just foolish in my opinion

I guess you think spending big on a Center and drafting an OT 9th overall is not enough? I think it's premium resources spent. The ripple effect of two OLmen going down against a very good DL doesn't suddenly mean they didn't spend enough resources to strengthen the OL. We all want good players at every position, but sometimes the opportunity to strengthen each position isn't available.

are we bringing back cooper? we do have one spot left.

It was pretty obvious that Cooper wasn't healthy. I don't think he was cut for lack of performance as much as his physical inability to move laterally in a normal fashion. Whatever his health issues are, it didn't seem like he was anywhere close to game shape.

We signed the second best, Richburg, and lost Fusco. We signed Cooper, and still have him on the list.

Why do I think they settled? B/c they didn't pick up one G in a deep G draft and instead of going for the best G in football, like Richburg at C over Kilgore, they chose to opt out. Wanna go cheaper? Fine, go Sitton and then draft a G and have Sitton mentor him for a couple years while still getting high quality play out of at least one G spot. Signing Tomlinson, who's also average, is more proof. Letting Fusco (average but continuity) go, also speaks to them going cheap there. But then they turn around and resign Tomlinson LT and give Cooper $5M. Imagine how this game goes with Norwell out there. Sitton. Top G from the draft (comes in for an injured starter).

Like many others have said, Kyle doesn't value top tier G's. He values top tier T's (extended Staley) and C's and that's understandable. But once you have a FQB, everything changes. You do everything you can to give him the best OL you can get and let the man go to work and grow WITHOUT 50% OF PRESSURE.
