We needed more than a better RT. We needed a better RT, RG and C in our deep playoff runs.

Our center is fine. We got good depth there as well. RG is developing and is far from bad. I know how much people hate the word "development" but at some point you gotta let it happen.

based of what Lynch said yesterday about trying to trade Mike…I'm telling ya they like Colton a whole hell of a lot more than people think. I hope they draft multiple lineman because I think there's value there when we're picking. Don't be shocked if they don't grab a OL with one of those 1sts 3 picks.

Our C was not fine. It wasn't Richburg. It was also Mike Person, Daniel Brunskill and Tom Compton. Even MM was getting tossed around. Had they shored those positions up AND we had health, we'd have at least one, most likely, even with subpar QB play.

You're probably right about that one. Me too...would be a total bummer if they didn't. At bare minimum, Colton needs some real competition...something MM never had.

What do you mean shored those positions up and health? If they had health then Richburg, Person and MM are healthy. Or do you expect a high level starting caliber backup C and RT? Because if so that's not really feasible as they are most likely starting on other teams.

Meaning we had 2-3 legit shots to get there and whether it was health or talent level, it was always a combination of reasons. I don't think with full health we quite had the talent level needed either way. But I guess we'll never know because even Mike Person was playing with a f**ked up neck and tried right after. Plus with our talent level, it's not the DL we needed to be 27 deep...it was the OL.
The talent drop off was always when they were down to backups due to injury, or person being banged up..and even then they had a viable, starting caliber RG option on the bench . And even then the backups played well enough for them continue to advance and still be in a position to win in final seconds. . You said it yourself about the KC OL when they were decimated by injuries against TB and sane for TB a year later.

I genuinely would have loved to see the same 5 start all year. Staley, Trent, Richburg, Person, McGlinchey, etc. Such a bummer...always limping into the playoffs or straight to I.R. and retirement. Oh well.

Yup, bummer
Someone forgot to tell the Eagles DTs are a dime a dozen.

Banks and Poe get your asses ready.

LOL. I'm laughing but with our luck, Poe and McKivitz will be our starters limping into the playoffs. And Kyle will bring back Tyler Kroft. What could go wrong?
Have we improved this unit over the past 4 off seasons? Have we gotten younger? Cheaper? More talented?

2019 [PFF Rank] - 2023 (PFF)
Joe Staley [5th out of 57] - Trent Williams (93.0)
Laken Tomlinson [41st out of 62] - Aaron Banks (62.7)
Weston Richburg [15th out of 29] - Jake Brendel (64.9)
Mike Person [52nd out of 62] - Spencer Burford (49.6)
Mike McGlinchey [30th out of 57] - Colton McKivitz (N/A)

Let's see what we do today in the draft!

I called it last year before the season started when you ranked concerns and had OL first.. (I said if this past group of OL didn't play musical chairs we would be a top OL unit and could be the best the year after). Well, we did stay healthy and became a top 5 OL, and I still think we can be higher at the top this year with some of the depth we acquired.

Hopefully we add Strange to help the RT while Kittle can wreck havoc ..like he's meant to be

Do you think our current o-line players will be even better next year?

Can a mid/late round rookie beat anyone out?

That's why I compared 2019 to (and through) 2023. You think they are on par with where they were? Significantly cheaper.

So you think this unit has improved from 2019?

How are you feeling going forward in getting over that hump? I ask b/c we all know what's cost us every year: injuries, unit pass protection and clutch QB play. This is one element in this equation.

our line in 2019, 21 and 22 have been good enough to win it all and i feel they are getting better.

but it doesn't matter.. OL can be #1 and have large gap between #2 and still lose. We're just handicapped at the most important position. Imagine having Purdy for 19, 21 and healthy NFCCG 22 .. we could possibly have 2 Lombardis out of those 3 years
