Has Baalke done a good job of getting some speed for this offense this offseason?

Exactly. Thats where 99.4% of NFL games are won or lost. Period end of story.

Thats really all that needs to happen for any team in the NFL. Hell if the Cards stayed healthy last years post season would of looked remarkably different.

well we have close to 20 people on IR that's insane. take half of those off and we're in the playoffs.

This team has lacked speed on offense for quite some time and IMO Baalke, who has done some questionable things this offseason, has done a nice job of signing Smith and Bush and adding a dimension we haven't had. Were gonna find out over the next year or 2 just how good Baalke really is.

So do you guys like the moves so far or is he failing to do his job well?

Personally if speed meant a lot, Al Davis would be the greatest GM ever. Our starters over the past several years have for the most part remained in tact (not including this offseason). With that said over the past several years with exception of our WR ' s nobody has really mentioned a lack of speed being an issue. I'm fine with being one of the "slower" teams in the NFL of that means continuing to be a more physical team that runs well/stops the run. That formula has done us well in the past four years. I see no need to change it now.
I don't trust Baalke when it comes to Wide Outs...by far his greatest weakness...holding out my judgement until the season starts...I have been let down far to much when it has come to Wide Outs with this guy...

49ers 2014 8-8 mediocrity is when the OLINE was a crap sandwich. Basically fix the OLINE and I'll see you in the playoffs.

Dominate the trenches!
Your 100% correct. The war in the trenches will win games. Speed will just get you highlights on ESPN. Both our Defensive line and Offensive line was beat up. Also doesn't help that the replacements performance was average....at best.

I would rather not have Culliver back if we would have had to match - or even compete with - that potato contract he was given. I'd like to see Cox work something out so we can consider a top WR in the first round instead of basically being forced to go with a CB. We STILL don't have a true #1 WR and haven't had one since 2003. Boldin was a top notch #2 when he got here and that's as close as we've gotten.

we don't have to go with CB in the 1st round. Dontae Johnson is here.
While Johnson did show promise, I wouldn't say I feel confident having him or Ward line up against another teams #1WR.
Traditionally the Niners don't draft CB early (Mike Rumph 1st round 2002) was the last time we went CB in the first round. With that said...this year's CB class seems weak. Don't see us drafting one in the first round, but it does need to be addressed early.

Agree. But outside of Crabtree who's the best WR we have drafted in the past 15 years? Josh Morgan, Brandon Lloyd (traded him two years later). WR usually takes about 2 - 3 years to develop. It's a hard postion to fill.

#1 corner is brock.

but don't sleep on Johnson. he's proven to be a gamer.

I wouldn't sleep on any of them... all have nice strengths as well as weaknesses, but I'm stoked about the coordinators/position coaches out to prove they can get players to perform well and at a high level.

Regards above, we went three years to NFC championship games, with very settled oline each year, but this changed last year, and so did our fortunes. (I know it wasn't only reason!) We seemed to lose a different guy every game, and went thru too many changes. Whatever combo we choose to go with out of Staley, Thomas, Kilgore, Martin, Boone, Davis, Pears, etc, it is whether the majority stay available that will determine a lot of our success. The return of various others will also help. Ultimately we always look to draft a year or two ahead of need, so it will depend on how people like Thomas, Martin, Ward, Acker, Reaser, Millard manage to contribute. Even some from the draft before. And some of this year's class too. Hopefully.
