Man, you two are REALLY getting good at this. I may have to have you manage the 2016 Team Needs thread for me.

No way you are out of it...it takes a village!

...with a little help from my friends!

The 49ers believe they have seven NFL-ready tight ends and they would like to see if they can make a trade or two.

The only TEs with trade value would be VD and McDonald. I can't see them trading VD but McD would be a logical choice...though he hasn't demonstrated much thus far.

Tough call...McDonald is a great inline blocker and now we're hearing he's making some catches too. Who else would block when needed? VD and his back? Bell? Carrier?

Blake Bell, a fourth-round pick, will be on the 49ers 53-man roster this season. I don't believe Vance McDonald has any such assurances. At the same time McDonald might have a better chance at winning the No. 2 job.

Bell needs to play stronger. McDonald needs to become more of a factor in the passing game. So there are advantages and drawbacks for both players. Derek Carrier will also be a factor for the No. 2 job. Asante Cleveland has put together a strong camp and could make a surprise push for a spot on the 53-man roster.

Veteran Garrett Celek and rookie Busta Anderson have stiff challenges ahead of them to win spots on the roster behind Vernon Davis.

LOS K.Nelson can also play TE.

Bottom line...a good TE is going to be cut...maybe a couple. Might as well try to get something for them (7th rounder?).

Not a big fan of having multiple 7th round picks but it's better than having none!
McDonald's trade value would be equal to mine....ZERO. There is no tape on him where another team would say "Boy we should could use a TE who drops balls, and fumbles".

Carrier did very well when give the opportunity, and who knows how VD will play this season. Last year was a train wreak. I am not opposed to starting McDonald as the #2 TE, but only on a very short leash.

We are going to need production from Patton and Ellington (3rd and 4th WRs) this season to have a decent offense.

That's the problem...VD is the only TE who would be worth a middle round pick...maybe a 2nd. McDonald would be in the 6th or 7th and the rest would be 7th or cut. McDonald will be seen as a guy who was held back by injury and scheme but was a higher draft pick...so worth a flier if some team is really in need of a #2 or 3 TE.
T/G Jordan Devey (6'6" 320) - Acquired from New England for TE Asante Cleveland

Another large human added to the OL.

Sounds like our depth at TE might be able to help us fill other areas of need. I guess Carrier might be on the move as well.

I like the competition and depth. To me, this is a sign we're looking to start B.Thomas at RG and then there will be a battle between Looney and M.Martin at C. Why? B.T. was a T and it seems to me they want him to concentrate on just G. That means we only have Boone and T.Brown as potential backups at T as we know the rest are VERY poor. So this player adds more competition, security and since he's already cross-trained and 27 years old, could have a shot to be the Adam Snyder of old (but decent).
