Good move trading Asante.

A). He wasn't, IMO, going to make the team or the practice team

B). Trent got all he possibly could in value for Asante

and something is always better than zero!

I like the competition and depth. To me, this is a sign we're looking to start B.Thomas at RG and then there will be a battle between Looney and M.Martin at C. Why? B.T. was a T and it seems to me they want him to concentrate on just G. That means we only have Boone and T.Brown as potential backups at T as we know the rest are VERY poor. So this player adds more competition, security and since he's already cross-trained and 27 years old, could have a shot to be the Adam Snyder of old (but decent).

Agree! The middle is pretty set and deep but RT is a huge question. Pears and Brown are OK for a mediocre team but if the niners want to be strong in the playoffs this may be a problem. I doubt this guy will be more than an emergency backup if Brown can't stick!
Rich Hill‏@PP_Rich_Hill

While Jordan Devey is closer to 6'7, his arm length is more similar to someone that stands <6'3. Too tall for G, not long enough for T.

Oh s**t....tuba players are no joke
Agree, Asante was not making the squad, and we have some bona fide TEs it appears. They may all make it. Getting anything for asante to me was a good job. He won't make Patriots squad, and we can always use a big OL guy.
"Highly recruited Tuba player" ???!!!

Well, if you're gonna play the tuba, might as well be highly recruited.

LOL John Middlekauff just said he can see Jordan Devey becoming a starter on our O-line this season.

Dismissed Marcus Martin, Brandon Thomas and Joe Looney as starters
Said that since he played with Tom Brady on a superbowl team so he has to be good.

Translation: "I've heard of Devey b/c of the Pats and Tom Brady but had to look up Martin, Thomas and Looney = Devey will be a starter for the SF 49ers."
