People comparing this to 2003 are being silly, they won't have to twist Monte Kiffin's arm and still have him turn them down because they are a trainwreck of a franchise, deep in salary cap hell, limited on talent with possibly the worst GM in the NFL.

not bad for a trainwreck of a franchise

1st Tier:
Harbaugh - If he would agree to new OC with new scheme. Not likely.
Holmgren - Would bring some maturity to the situation and would likely leave Fangio alone. Bring in a young OC who could learn from him and it's good to go!

2nd Tier:
Gruden - If he's ready he would be a good transition coach. He's turned two teams around and the niners already have a great D so it might be his easiest job to date.
Gase - Young guy so there is a risk, but he has an offensive mindset that would help this team.
Pep Hamilton - Similar to Gase and same questions--is his success more the talent around him? Still an interesting young mind.

3rd Tier: Really would prefer an offensive mind--not saying these guys don't deserve a shot...just afraid it would be turnstile OCs again.
Fangio - Deserves a shot.
Tomsula - Rah rah doesn't teach offensive football! They need a guy who's a detail offensive mind. Love this guy being on the team though.
Bowles - No defensive HC please...and bringing in this guy over Fangio would be a real slap in the face.
Bevell - Not convinced this would be enough of a change but hurting Seattle would be nice.

i would flip flop two and three under JH but otherwise you got it right,,,, nice to see you put coaches already on staff at the bottom of the list, that is the safe way and playing it safe and afraid cost us the super bowl and multiple other games over the last couple of years in my opinion

that is what i say,, some people think when jh leaves, the niners will cease to exist, the webzone will cease to exist, everything we ever knew about the niners would have just vanished. they have little faith in the front office to bring in a good person and yes, this job is attractive to many people like gruden and holmgren i would bet.. sad to say the job and our team is more attractive to a coach than to some of our so called fans right now ,,, our next coach is someone NOT nor should it be someone on the current coaching staff

Here is problem. Depending on who they bring in could mean that there will be a LOT of roster turnover. What if the next guy runs a 4-3 defense? Do we have the personnel for that? No. Does that mean Aldon Smith is gone? Probably. What about the offense? If we run a spread VD is most likely gone and so is McDonald (not that he's done much). Point being is this s**t could go south FAST!

Question. Do we actually know the reason is because Harbaugh won't fire Roman or are we speculating?

You mean different from the 3/4 Fangio uses as his base? Aldon Smith gone?

He has never done that. He had Sherman Lewis running the offense in GB and Gil Haskell running the offense in Seattle. And his picked replacement in Seattle was Jim Mora (a defensive coach).

any coach whose name is not nolan or erickson or singleberry is not going to get rid of aldon smith, even though he has been the invisible man last game, those guys do not grow on trees,,, in regards to vernon davis,,,,,, i am lukewarm on giving him another shot after his s**t this year but then maybe the offense is better that what it shows under roman so give him another shot,,,, i still say we could upgrade our back up tight end spot if vernon stays.... and if a guy like gruden or holmgren come in here and want to do something different,, go for it. the s**t this year did not work, its thier right and unlike some college guy or flavor of the month oc guy ,, i would trust them because they have good track records.... some new guys could come in here and ,, pause for the shock and awe,,,, actually put something in that suits our people, establish an identity, get plays called in on time and gee,,,,,, if we need 9 yards for a first down, do not call a f**king pass for four yards

Holmgren would only give us about 1-3 years max

he is 66 years old and the season would take a toll him IMO

My whole point is that he's 66 years old and would likely be more willing to be a mentor. If you think he still has his ego at that level then he'd never be able to work with Baalke, so it's a moot point.
