Kap played worse than his numbers indicated today. 2 damn slow. That's all. Fumbling at the 2 was inept, whether he was over the line or not. Impossible to tell. The last quarter was pretty sad. We need a change....somewhere. I think our O is the worst in the league, or next to worst.
It starts with the o-line and goes out from there. Look at Dallas, they've had one of the worst o-lines the last few years and they finally build it up and now they can play pretty solid football. The Niners o-line was a mess today which has a trickle down effect.
The coaches go in with a certain game plan thinking their players can play at a baseline level. The o-line played far below what should be expected of them and that hampered the offense as a whole. To add insult to injury, Kap didn't play well either and it appeared the coaching staff was reluctant to adjust to what was happening on the field.
I'll be very, very interested to see what THL and Johnnydel have to say about this game.
The Rams were getting there around 3+ seconds, maybe even 1 or 2 of those sacks under 3. You can't game plan for the hot start they had. People forget the defense game plans too. They see we are an intermediate/deeper passing team and that takes a good 3+ seconds and starting a rookie center? What do you THINK the game plan will be? Bring the house, run blitz circa 2010, contain CK and press the WR's. At some point, you need to make an in game adjustment and start throwing nothing but quick slants, drag routes, screens, drop the TE's down in soft zones (did McDonal/VD play today?), flare out the RB's like the nice read CK saw on their blitz where he instantly hit Gore in the flat, bunch formation screens, etc...get CK out on the roll-outs and give him multiple layers of receiving options...make him force the defender to declare and then either pass or run. There a lot of things an offensive staff can do to save an outnumbered OL and a pressed QB trying to buy time to allow the deeper routes to open. To give you an example, the Denver game, b/c we sat back and dropped 8, Manning threw every pass save for one under 3 seconds. So scheme can be just as critical. The Rams got their only TD by dragging their best WR across the formation and getting isolation on Borland. Well done. That's scheme and that's a mismatch. That's 7.
