the thing about this game is that there are so many questions now...I'm in the camp that thought we'd win this game, get willis, aldon and bowman back and beat NO, WASH, And NY and roll into sea at 8-3. This loss doesn't just put us out of the playoffs...now, it forces us to look and say..."No wonder we lost, look how terrible certain parts of our team played"
I think any QB would struggle with our offensive line, it's not Kap. Rothlisberger is having his best season, why? because he's not getting sacked every freakin play...he has time to throw...ROmo and cowboys finally making noise...I wonder why...offensive line is pushing everyone around and running with authority...
It's pretty simple really. We block well, we run well, we pass well...we win.

Even when we get those players back, you're looking at 3-4 games of them getting up to playing speed... it's almost better to keep your backups in most of those games...

In this case, Kaepernick had time to lay the ball in where it would have been a walk-in TD. Instead, the ball was low and late and it left it up to the refs. It should not have come to that.
I see where you're coming from, and I used to think this way until Seattle went on their championship run while winning multiple games vs teams like the bucs that they had no business winning. Even on the weeks you're not playing to you're potential, if you play good enough to win, you should get the win. With the way refs are controlling the outcomes of games these days you really need them to make the right calls, it really is the difference between winning and losing.
You can say we could do this or that better, but at the end of the day that's a game winning TD to Crabtree, pretty or not. That's a huge missed safety call that skewed the outcome. I dont see how you could overturn Kaps fumble i think going with the call on the field was the right call but if the refs make the obvious calls i mentioned it doesn't come down to that. Teams don't play lights out every week, but if you make the plays to win you should be rewarded.

we have to stop blaming the refs; i know they don't ever call it right for us but we played like crap...that's why we lost....we had so many opportunities but blew it; crabtree and iupati do not deserve big contracts(look what happened to boone-he sucks)...im sorry, i love frank gore but they are wasting his talents and he won't be back next year

actual we're called the whiners simply because it rhymes with niners. all other fan bases do the same.

Now normally I would blame the Refs, but in this case you can't do that. you just can't.
Calls may have been missed, but that's not the reason we lost.
We can say it's on Kap and the Oline, and Coaching. But it's all of it!
Kap didn't play well, Oline played worse, and Coaching is not where it should be.
You would think our weak point is the defense, but clearly its the offense still, and that one has less injuries, and is more stacked at this point.
I feel like if Roman goes, so does Harbaugh, as well as Vic Fangio.
And so if that all happens, that means we start from scratch again!, and who knows how that will go.
I already knew making the championship game 4 years in a row was going to be a challenge, but now it's looking like we aren't even going to make the play offs at this rate.
This isn't the same team 3 years ago, or even 2 years ago, we lost the spark we had. everyone got cocky and were too worried about making there big check and forgot the importance of doing your damn job!

This "didn't deserve to win" criticism is nonsense. The defense played a pretty damn solid game, and the offense did enough to put the team in position to win at the end. No team deserves to be handed a win, but every team deserves a referee crew that calls the game in a consistent and reasonable way. Boger's crew makes it up as the game goes along. When officials kick calls on outcome-determinative plays, I think it's okay to complain.

Yes we played horribly. Plenty of teams play horribly and still get wins. We made the plays to win and they just didn't allow them to stand. That's the problem.

Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3, Item 1 of the NFL Rule Book (page 51) states that "if a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact with an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete."
The quote above in the NFL's rule for completing the process of the catch.
See right before Crabtree rolls over the ball moves in his hands, that's why it wasn't ruled a TD (this is the second time I've seen a Jerome Booger line judge get a call on the goal line 100% wrong). If anything, this should have been ruled an incomplete pass, not sure how the LJ right there screwed it up that badly.

Denver did the same two weeks ago. Without a chuck or jam press, I don't even think Willis/Bowman can keep up with a teams #1 WR sprinting across the field and then down the sideline. That's a tall order that the scheme draws upon.
It was some sort of zone coverage though. This wasn't a play that isolated a receiver on a linebacker. I don't have it on DVR so I can't go back and look at it but if I recall correctly the CB (Cox I think) passess off the WR to Borland who literally just watches him go by. It may have been some kind of pattern match but I couldn't see where all the other players were. In any case, I think Borland was supposed to run with the receiver for a bit to at least give the illusion of coverage or to be in the vicinity in case the ball is thrown.
A jam press does absolutely nothing in this situation. The receiver would have fought off the jam which only lasts a half second or so and would have still ran by Borland, who was just staring at something in the backfield.
No you are right...the WR started out on the right side and dragged underneath left which means the WR is then passed off to a flat-footed Borland who's peeking into the backfield. I don't mean a jam press per se but often times a DE or OLB will chuck this WR hard at the LOS or as he comes across within the first 5 yards if they can to slow him down and allow the zone defender to pick him up in stride. Sometimes that helps and other times, it's a half effort and the WR isn't slowed down at all. Execution. But a clean release and a WR running full speed across the middle is an excellent scheme and creates an instant mismatch for the ILB (Borland, Wilhoite, Bowman, Willis, etc...I don't care who). HaRoman should take notes.

I think both are 50/50 and unfortunately we were on the short end of the stick once again. The one thing I do know is that the clock should have stopped leaving us 30+ seconds.

FOR REAL!! If it's a catch you have to rule it a TD...and the spot of the ball?? The ball should have been like 5 inches from the goal line ( if not a TD plus the clock should have stopped) not a yard! This was horrible all around...your telling me Kap doesn't break the plane before losing the ball??
No possible way a ref can actually see a fumble during the game without it crossing the plane 1st...
I usually don't blame the refs but in a matter of 10 sec they blew 4 calls...yes SF played like garbage on offense, but to get 4 calls wrong?!
