My take is, Fangio wants to see if Dahl is any better than a rookie Reid. Make sure he isn't overlooking anything of Dahl. Then it's more like -- 'Naw, lets start Reid for the season.'

There's one drawback to playing the rookie(s) extensively during the preseason. They are already not used to a 16+ game schedule, but now we want to see them in extended play in the preseason? Might work against us as the 49ers go on a deep playoff run and are counting on a couple rooks to contribute (McDonald, Reid).
