Did the last 5 years happen because the 49ers were

IMO, longtime fans have seen lean years before and I think we are about to see them again. But hey, I am a big soccer fan too so I am extremely curious to see what kind of renovations the Yorks do to Leeds home field and what they are able to do in the premier league.
If even a powerhouse franchise like Manchester United can slip into the lower half of the premier league it will be extremely interesting to see how the Yorks intend to compete and stay in the premier league.
You're panicking over a lot of assumptions. Handing out big contracts to a ton of vets is not a good longterm solution. One has to be more selective about large veteran contracts, especially 3rd or 4th contracts. They handed out a bunch recently, and now its time to churn over the roster for younger talent. No guarantees they find the right young talent, but it needs to be done. If they draft stars they'll pay them plenty when their contracts come up for extensions.
This isn't about being cheap. It's about getting a better roster for many years to come. If anything they waited a year too long.
