Who is our starting qb next season and how do we get him?

Fresno State is in the middle of their spring practices. A Fresno TV station was there and interviewed David Carr. Carr's younger brother will be Fresno's starting QB this year. During the interview, Carr said he is looking forward to starting for the 49ers this year.

well he is the ONLY QB on the roster so it's not like he has a ton of competition.

And if the lock out goes all the way up to the start of the regular season they only other QBs on the team will be rookie draft picks. So the odds of him starting at least half the season are, sadly, kinda high.

I don't think we'll land Carson or Kolb. Carson isn't a longterm answer and Cinny's owner is too stubborn to let him go. I highly doubt We'll give our #7 for Kolb. I expect him to go to Seattle.

With such a weak bunch of free agents, I expect that we'll be looking for a stopgap. Bulger and Hasselback are the frontrunners, With Bulger being the favorite. Apparently, Bulger had been throwing the ball great in Baltimore and the team would've been very comfortable if Flacco had went down.

I think Harbaugh would love to sign a veteran to buy time to groom a young guy.

This is the order that I feel the team may be rating players this offseason. Cam and Locker have accuracy issues, which is probably why we've shown so little interest.

Free agency/trade:
1. Marc Bulger
2. Matt Flynn
3. Matt Hasselbeck: His health hurts his status.
4. Josh Johnson: the Bucs will probably demand no less then a 3rd, possibly a 2nd.


Draft:
1. Gabbert: Wont happen, he'll be gone before #7.
2. Ponder: Unlikely, at this point, he'll require trading back into the 1st.
3. Dalton: Possible, but I think someone might snag him before us in the 2nd.
4. Kaepernick: Very possible; he's raw and it would be a reach early in the 2nd, but I think Harbaugh could groom him into a solid starter. I can see us packaging some picks together to make it happen.
5. Stanzi: If things don't work out, he's a mid-rounder that could add value.
6. McElroy: Reminds me of Flynn. Very intelligent player that can manage the game.

Darkhorse draftee:
- Tyrod Taylor, VT: He's an underated passer that has excellent quickness and ability to keep plays alive. People see him and think about Vick and all his baggage. Taylor seems like a good guy that's committed to becoming a pro QB.

cmon man dont let blind hate run your course no he hasn't been a great qb but he has been average throughout his last 3 seasons and considering our last 2 coaches didnt know how to game plan and we haven't exactly had a great or decent o line for that fact it isnt that bad

we finally have a HC (i wont say good as he is unproven) but he knows how to game plan he actually knows his x's and o's and if he wants to give alex a chance i think he can succeed

The key to me is getting several guys Harbaugh likes and letting them sort it out during training camp or early games when they get back to it. I do not exclude Smith from the mix because he is a free agent who knows the players and Harbaugh seems to think highly of him. If Harbaugh had come in and said, "We will go a different direction." I would have been fine with that as he knows a bit more about QBs than we fans. Those who choose to hate players need to find more important things to hate...cancer, poverty... Hating a player from your own team seems counter intuitive.

Starter I go with Hassleback.. I think he the right fit for what we need which is a stop gap..

He's better then going back to Smith... Hassleback actually done some thing good in the is league... Plus we need a stop gap that can actually win games...

I see it this way...Alex Smith has had a rough career from coaching inconsistency to faulty offensive lines to wide receivers who cant run routes good enough. But we happen to have a young and well built offensive line now and a good stable staff with a quarterback guru and more matured receivers. Alex has got potential and i believe with the help of HArbaugh he can be our franchise QB. Palmer is too old and ineffective, kolb is to expensive, draft picks are too risky and we need a franchise DB or pass rusher with our 1st round pick.
