Bradford is playing very well for a rookie.

But keep in mind that Arizona is 3-4 with the QB duo of Anderson and Hall. Having a competant coaching staff is also very beneficial.

You mean the team that went to the Superbowl in 2008 and 2nd round of the playoffs last year only to lose to the team that won the Superbowl?

3-4 is horrible considering what they have done the last two years.

and the key difference was not coaching, but who they had at QB.

So explain the records in San Diego and Dallas. And even Buffalo for that matter. Fitzpatrick is playing lights out..

1. Turnovers

Now look to see if those teams' QB's are helping the situation or not helping. Romo and Rivers are still playing well (notice the play of DAL offense without Romo) and not hurting the team. The team just keeps hurting itself. Same goes for the 49ers but they were 1-6 because the QB wasn't helping either.

Fitzpatrick has 12TD to 5INT.

Turnovers?? Yet Max Hall and Derek Anderson can find a way to win 3 games with 5 total TD passes and 12 picks. Dallas and SD have a combined 4 wins with Romo and Rivers.

The success of a team goes way beyond the play of a QB.

edit - this doesnt even include Buffalos record and QB play

*to qualify you must have thrown at least 14 passes/game

NFC West QB ratings and league rank:

Sam Bradford: 75.9 - 26th

Alex Smith: 75 - 27th

Matt Hasselbeck: 70.7 - 28th

Derek Anderson: 62.8 - 30th

Counter point to Bradford's 3rd down QB rating: On 1st and 10 his rating is 43.7, worst of those four. According to ESPN.com.

We can play with fun statistics all day if you want to. Bottom line... NFC West QBs not looking so hot.

I hope Troy Smith really is a Jedi.

fair enough, nice analysis, and I think that is a good counter-response that is deserving of attention. Of course if we rounded out the picture by talking about wins/losses, calmness under pressure, and how the above results compare relative to # of years of experience....... the comparisons between Bradford and Smith come to an unceremonious and screeching halt. BTW, what was Smith's 1st and 10 rating?

On 1st Down:

Smith - 82.9 Rating - 5 TD, 3 Int
Bradford - 46.2 Rating - 0 TDs, 5 Int

cool

What's their ratting on 2nd down, in the 4th quarter, while trailing by 3 or more points when the wind is blowing 10mph or under out of the west? Pretty sure if we find this answer we will finally know who will still be a stating quarterback in two years.

well?

In other news Bradford is about to get a new toy...A very pissed off Moss that wants to prove he hasn't lost a step while the Niners are sitting on the sideline doing nothing.

Bradford has not been getting the ball to his receivers. I don't see Moss helping him very much and I see him getting more frustrated. It's obvious Moss is only the field now for a paycheck similar to how he was with the Raiders.

Actually Vince Young just got a new used toy.

Can't wait to see how he likes it.

I predict that by the third game it will look like three days after Christmas - battery worn out, broken and laying behind the sofa.
Just glad this is his last year in SF. So tired of this guy holding our team back.

Any half competent team would have moved on by now.

In a rather perverse way, I would like to see everything about this team remain the same next year except Alex Smith be gone.

Sam Bradford and the Rams are a good example of what can happen with an aggressive defensive-minded HC who hires an experienced OC with a strong passing background and creative play calling ability...and brings in a solid QB coach.

Another interesting thing Spag has done in St Louis is to hire Nolan Cromwell, a former safety who had a Pro Bowl level career to coach WRs. Who better to teach receivers who to beat a defensive back than a former defensive back that knows just when and where a DB is vulnerable.

Bradford is a long way from a finished product but he has a lot more going for him right now in the way of quality coaching than Alex Smith ever had in his time here.

I don't doubt he's getting better coaching AT THE MOMENT but Smith was surrounded by experienced football guys when he came into the NFL and still sucked. The talent level on the Rams is extremely comparable to our 2005 team as well. The guy just never developed.

You also can't sit there and tell me that the reason why Bradford is playing well has nothing to do with...Bradford himself. He's just a naturally more talented QB than Smith and so he's able to pick the game up light years faster (he's already more football savvy).

In any case, Smith sucks (I'm sure we all agree on this by now) and will be gone next year so the argument will be moot soon.

IMO, he's already earned the "bust" label but it won't be official til we let him walk this offseason (along with Singletary, Johnson, and whoever else had a hand in this mess).

This has got to be a painful realization for Alex's supporters. Kind of like Maury's "you are the father" episodes he airs a few times a week.

These guys were swinging hard from Alex's nuts, and it all came spiraling down in a manner of 2-3 weeks.

Sorry supporters........you set yourselves up for this, wearing the blinders when Alex clearly was a main reason (not the only reason, but one of the MAIN reasons) why this team has faltered for the past 6 years. Man up, and start eating your crow. The faster you do this, the less threads will come out showcasing how "sucky" Alex really is.

Start eating your crow? So much for the "we just want what is best for the team, we know we're all FANS and want ALL the players to do well" bs. This was always about you guys proving you're right and telling other people they're wrong. Pathetic that you need to do that about football players on a message board to make yourselves feel superior in life.

Yep, if this board had to eat crow for all the wrong predictions, the crow would become an endangered species.

what does this prove again? That the 49ers have more 3rd and long than any other team in the NFL... oh and the offensive play calling sucks... and people on the webzone just want to say "I told you so" more than anything else.

we're third and long more than any other team because, prior to last week, we SUCKED at first and second down! Duh.

p.s. what's your excuse for Troy's 115 rating? Also for him not getting sacked? And no INT's while rushing and throwing TD's? That's all stuff Alex couldn't pull together in one game in his whole career.

lol At turning the argument back at Smith rather than the fact you guys are only doing it to troll everyone on here.
