Better hope Nate Davis pans out because I hate to waste the prime years of Gore, Willis, Justin Smith, Clements, and Vernon looking for a franchise QB and then waiting 2-3 years to develop the next QB (and thats assuming they draft the correct QB this time).

My money is on Nate developing.

I never thought Vick had a prime.

I thought he was a fun guy to watch back around 2005, back when there was still hope for him becoming a legit QB. I like the Steve Young brand of scrambling QB: a guy who could run if he wanted to, but earned his bread by primarily throwing the football. By the end of that year, it was relatively clear that Vick was never going to become that kind of QB.

Honestly I think that is part of the reason for Sing being so hard on Nate Davis. If you want to be a starting caliber QB then you have to put in the work OFF the field

I think Alex will pan out this year. The guy has paid his dues. When the suit threw him under the bus he kept his cool. Nate Davis has a world of talent and by Singletary getting on his case it shows he's gong to do everything possible to make the young man fulfill that potential.

That's how I feel too. I think they have about a 5 year window, in which they'll be a playoff contender. It would be a shame to waste that opportunity because of mediocre QB play.

Just look at the Giants. They had a chance to win a World Series, when they had Bonds, but they failed to surround him with good hitters and the window closed on them.

The Rams have their quarterback of the future in Bradford. My worst fear is that both Seattle and Arizona really suck this year, get high draft picks, and each draft one of the top 3 quarterbacks, in Locker, Luck and Mallett.

I find it hard to believe Alex Smith will have a Jamarcus Russell year. Considering the talent around him, it is more likely that the 49ers would be 8-8 if Alex does poorly. What is always a risk is Alex getting injured, and then having an unknown going into next year.

Because the 49ers have such a talented team, I don't think it is likely that they will draft a QB high and then try and get him to start quickly for the team. I think it is more likely that they will draft an aging veteran like McNabb and try to win now. They may also draft a rookie QB to learn while the veteran plays for a year or 2.

Alex will be just fine if they can protect him. this team is complete.

Nate Davis leads will lead us to a Super Bowl before Alex Smith does.
