Sounds like Alex is definitely the starter barring a serious meltdown during TC/Pre-season.

"If you look at what they did in San Francisco, they had some good drafts," the source concluded. "The roster has improved considerably since Scotty took it over. But five years is a long time to go without a winning record and still have your job in this league. They could never get the QB situation squared away, and part of that falls on the revolving door (at offensive coordinator). The tampering charge left a black eye on the organization. And there were other issues restricting the team from moving in the right direction."

Actually, it doesn't at all.

I don't understand why everyone is blaming the Yorks, in paticular Jed who to me said everything right.

If it's a personal matter why Scott is leaving, then it's personal and none of our business. We don't have a right to know his personal life. Now, if people want to speculate as to why Scott left then fine. But, blaming all this on Jed York is just wrong and really making him the scapegoat. There could be all sorts of reasons why this was the best thing for Scott and the team. All that matters is its an internal issue that was taken care of and we have a back up plan. Jed did the right thing by giving Scott his 5 days as requested and by standing behind Alex Smith. Alex deserves that and in my own weightless opinion he's earned it.

Blaming everything on York maybe be the popular thing to do, but in this instance it's uncalled for.

There's clearly a prima facie case for blaming the Yorks. They took over 10 years ago and have run the franchise aground. The common denominator here is Papa York.

Who else would you blame it on? The series of lackeys, coffee boys and blowhards they've hired over the years?

I think Jed is doing a great job too. It's not his fault this happen right now and it's good to see Jed take a step and fix the problem right away.
I listened to the entire conference call on 49ers.com and can honestly say that I learned absolutely nothing other than Scot is officially out.

Wasted 18 mins of my life, honestly.

Sorry, but Jed is not doing a great job right now. He just fired his GM before the draft - that's surreal.

Don't get me wrong. I like Jed's passion and he reminds me of his uncle. But remember, before Eddie got it right he got it tragically wrong when he hired Joe Thomas as his first GM.

So far today, Jed had made two profoundly aggredious errors.
1) He doesn't think he needs a GM
2) He sees Alex as the future.

Well, there is always alot of factors to consider when determining why a team goes downhill. Yes, I agree with you that John and Dennise York had a lot to do with the teams downfall. But, remember during their reign the niners still made the playoffs and were competitive for some years. They inherited a salary cap issue from under the table Eddie D that no one cares to point out. I'm not saying they were good owners but I won't say they were bad owners either. Jed on the other hand impresses me just about everytime I hear about him because he's got two key qualities that will make him succeed and that is: His Brains and His passion for the game. This dude, knows his stuff and is a workhorse from what I hear, staying late at the office.

Remember, this is Scotty's personal issue, not Jed's. I doubt Jed wanted this to happen considering he's got a good friendship with him.

I understand why everyone looks to the owners. But if we won that Vikings game last year and made the playoffs, a lot less people would be mad at Jed York. Which proves my point, it's not always the owners fault for failures upstairs or on the field.

I guess this is one of those topics where many here will have to agree to disagree because I don't think he needs to find a GM right away and I do think Alex Smith is the future.

Yes, eventually a GM will need to be named but it's not absolutely essential that we have one before the draft. Scott had to consult and was just the trigger man. Everyone is replaceable.

And Alex Smith finally has the weapons and two years with the same OC. I saw good things from him and I do believe he will have a great season.
Why not hire a guy like a Carl Peterson, former GM in KC? Or how about Vinny Cerato, (SP?) former GM for the Redskins? He was with the 49ers years ago.

He doesn't think he needs a GM? What do you want him to do, higher someone off the street? The draft board is 90-95% done, free agency is slow so why not take time to hire the right GM?

Alex Smith isn't the future? Rather you like it or not he is the future. Did you want him to say "Alex is not the future" WTF would that accomplish?
