Enter Bill Cowher

Wtf does Cowher know about being a GM. Just because the dude was good coach don't mean he can be a GM.

You don't think Cowher had a big influence over guys drafted?

No I don't. Steelers have had the same blue print of what they do for like 30 years. Cowher was just a coach.

Well look for Charlie Casserly or someone like him.

Yah they could do that, but I would prefer some young up and comer.
well this thread is certainly useless for information, 3/4 of the post here are about people complaining about Jed not answering about a personal matter

I believe he was trying to say that we can leave the personal issues behind closed doors and focus on football.

I don't see why people are so interested in the drama.

Not a big Casserly fan at all. I would rather bring in someone like Mike Lombardi who worked for the 49ers when Eddie D, Bill Walsh and John McVay were running things
Honestly, I think he said what he COULD say. Obviously there's a story behind why McCloughan was dismissed, I'm sure technically it was mutual but more than likely (just my opinion) he was given the option to 'part mutually and keep things confidential' or be released and allow the details to go public. Regardless, Jed going on and discussing Scot's personal issues, or his possible failures as GM, would have made him seem like much more of an ass than handling it the way he did. Sorry if you're frustrated not more was said (as I am admittedly too), but what's important is that the team is ready for the draft.
Jed York might have a better career in politics than pro football.

media people can be such douces. they all think its tmz or something, if you know he won't talk about it ask something else, don't just reword the same questions for 20 minutes.

Exactly.

That's their jobs though. We don't know what he can or cannot say so the only way to get to that line is to ask questions. As a fan that gives my hard-earned money to this franchise for over 20 years, I feel like I'm owed a little of an explanation. Sorry. If you hate reporters, don't get ask for a high-profile job.

I don't hate reporters. I hate tabloid reporters. For instance the guy who was audibly laughing during the call? Yeah, I don't care that he couldn't trick Jed into saying something quotable. Jed clearly stated he was going to talk about the cause out of respect to Scot. And honestly I am ok with that, I don't care for gossip mongering, reporters are supposed to report facts.

And, if some, not all of those who took part in the call were more concerned with that aspect of their job they could have got a lot more accomplished than they did.

Gwen Knapp, Kawakami, Maiocco, et al. are tabloid reporters? Seriously? That's great that you're okay with it, but when you're a reporter for a media outlet, not a tabloid, you have to ask questions for everyone; all those who do want to know as much as possible - even that which he may not feel comfortable asking.

Knapp, check, Kawakami?!?!?! double-check and then some, notorious for his conspiracy theories, even revered by some.

Maiocco, Barrows, Coen (who I don't really like, but can certainly respect.) are reporters, when there are facts they report them, when there is speculation they report it as such, instead of trying to pass it off as fact.

I don't care about the "juicy" "sorid" details, the who's, what's, and where's, because none of that has any bearing on the team. That is their job by the way, to cover the team, not covering the state of Scot McClougan's marital affairs.

Coulda been Lowell Cohn. He was that douche that was pissing off Singletary in one of his press conferences last year. I think he even asked a question... then laughed.

Yeah, that's what I thought you meant.

No, no, a million times no.

That is the problem in journalism today. There is no off-limits. Why do you need to know if Scot was cheating with his secretary or not? Are you his wife? A reporter is supposed to deal with relevant information, not lucid details to drum up "hits" on their blog.

The facts are Scot was let go because of personal reasons, he would have remained if not for those personal matters, and the organization is not going to speak on the issues, because they are as stated, personal.

They asked a dozen differently worded questions to get one sentence worth of information. That is not good journalism at all, if you don't like the answers, ask a different question.
