Wow, this week reminded me more of the 2011 Bucs game before I heard this. Now it's kinda eerie.

They can. The thing is a player has to miss 8 weeks if he's put on the IR-DTR, and depending on the severity of the fracture Staley could be available again before that, perhaps as soon as 5 weeks.
They'll know more after x-rays and other scans.

Cheap with what? Who were we suppose to bring in?
Dude how many times have we had this debate. You say there was nothing we could have done, then multiple players go on to have better seasons than what we had.
To answer the question. Jordan Mills would have been nice.

Unfortunate, but could've been worse. Joe will likely be out 6-8 weeks, one of 'em the bye. Lynch may look to add a vet OT, but it won't surprise me to see Brunskill at LT. He's got experience over Skule. We'll see. At any rate, great win today and as Coach said, someone will just have to step up.

How many teams have 4 quality tackles on their roster? Many teams don't even have 2, but this team is supposed to think ahead just in case we lose both our swing tackle and then our starting LT before week 3? C'mon

I loved reading the first two pages of this thread. I think Staley has exceeded expectations from what some people really thought early in his career.

He has lived up to his 1st round status, but this wasn't his primary thread back in the day. At some point his Joe Show thread became his main thread while his original player thread when drafted got forgotten.

This. People here want a starter quality backup which nobody in the NFL has.
We're gonna have to count on KS and staff to coach the backup and scheme around this weakness. We have the best offensive coach in the NFL so at least I know everything that can be done will be done.

Expect a lot of TE help to block the left side.

Here's the play on which #49ers LT Joe Staley sustained his fractured left fibula. Raheem Mostert ran into Staley's leg from behind. A freak injury. Staley said he is expected to be out from 6 to 8!weeks. (Photo @JCGar75) pic.twitter.com/5qdVY9OTs7

No one was more surprised that Jordan Mills was starting at left tackle for the Dolphins Thursday than Jordan Mills.
Brian Flores broke the news to him not long before kickoff, electing to give Laremy Tunsil the night off.
"Coach came up to me right before we went out to the field telling me I'd be at left tackle and 'you've got to be ready for the next-man-up mentality,'' Mills said. "When he told me, I was like, 'Let's go.'"
Give Mills, who last lined up at left tackle in a game when he was a freshman at Louisiana Tech a decade ago, points for effort and enthusiasm.
But deduct them all for execution.
It was a slog for him all night. Mills, signed by the Dolphins in May, looked like a guy playing out of position.
Mills, on the field for 38 out of a possible 74 offensive snaps, allowed multiple pressures, at least one sack and committed two holding penalties.
That was from August. Mills may be a veteran and have RT experience but that does not mean he would be adequate here. Is he or any street FA that much better than Skule or Brunskill? Skule and Brunskill at least have some upside and room to improve whereas Mills is who he is at this stage.
I am sure we will look hard at the FA and trade market to see if we can't improve in the meantime.
