We let our GM go on record and call Crabtree a home run and the player he wants the most in the draft. Then once we get him what do they do ? Show they are not willing to negotiate at all and offer a take it or leave it deal.

Michael Crabtree, sure do wish we could have had you as we surely did need you. Oh well back to watching another year of playmaker deficient football on offense.

I'm thinking he just doesn't want to play for us. If he wanted to play for a playoff team then unless that team is willing to deal up in the draft (and none of them did), then by virtue of being a top draft pick, you're going to a lower calibre team.

He could have signed the slotting contract and became the playmaker he said he is, then held out next year, or the following year to get his money after he actually showed us something. At least that way the fans would have his back because he did produce. The niners have been good at rewarding their producers before their contracts have been up (ex Gore).

The guy has never played a down of professional football and his agent took him down a path that can't be reversed.

His stance does not prove he doesn't want to play for us, it proves he felt his value was higher than the slotted worth.

The 9ers stance proves they are not willing to negotiate, the least they could do (and this is from the info that we have) is make an attempt to meet somewhere in the middle.

Adam Schefter just reported on ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown that there hasn't been much progress between the 49ers and first-round pick Michael Crabtree on a contract and that "signs" are that he'll re-enter the draft in 2010.

Schefter reports that there's "every expectation" that Crabtree will sit out this season. The Niners still want to sign him and still think he can help this year, but neither side is willing to budge at all in negotiations, which makes a resolution less likely by the day.

That contradicts reports earlier in the week that Crabtree's resolve was weakening, but may lend some credence to the notion that the 49ers will investigate potential tampering with Crabtree from teams letting him know that they'll pay him what he wants if they get a chance to select him next April.

If we pay this dude what he wants and he doesn't pan out (Stokes and Woods) the same people screaming bloody murder for NOT signing him, would want the York's heads for blowing out of slot money on a bum.

This is Crabtree's fault, no one elses.

No team will trade for him unless a deal is worked out with him beforehand.
It's clear, either....

1) Craptree never intended to play for 9ers, Unless he "robbed" them with his contract demand.

2) Craptree was influenced by those 2 teams that Deion said with their "we will pay you 40 Million statement"

3) Craptree recognizes his stat's were generated in a "gimmic college offense", and he knows he only runs a 4.59 40 recognizing he may be the second coming of J.J. Stokes.... so he better get paid Big Time up front.
I hope nothing but the worst for Craptree.
Man jed and scot are novices with this s**t. they cant negotiate at all, and if they think that just not going over slot to pay their players will get them loyalty from around the nfl than theyre dumb. btw what did irvin say?

It would hurt less than losing him and basically coming out of this draft class with ZERO first day picks.

Again no team is trading for him if they don't have a deal in place with him beforehand. So we could end up losing him back to the draft.

4.59 40 is meaningless. Q ran in the 4.7's and has been just fine in the NFL. 40 times are overrated.
If he sits out the season then trade him to the Lions for a 2nd rd pick.
If it is true that they sent him that letter about reporting today....then I believe that they don't really want him to sign at all and are done with him.....and I like that because I feel our money should be spent elsewhere anyway......and this gives us an out.

hopefully we can get a late 1st or high second for him.

I wouldn't go that far, BUT, if he doesn't want to play for us...f*ck'em. I have no problem with saying that.

They need to send a letter. It's the start of a 'legal' process.
