.625 winning percentage as a starter = Franchise QB. Did I do that right?

Lol give it a rest already! Are we now saying the offense and Kyle was carried by the defense???

also for many young fans under 30 Jimmy Garoppolo is the winningest 49ers QB of their lifetime, 2nd is Shaun Hill. Yet fans on here will stop at nothing to bash him until he's ran out of town……ugh I told myself I was done defending him

You bringing up Shaun Hill proves how assigning a record/winning percentage to a QB is stupid.

He's done tons of great things for the franchise, gave the fanbase something to cheer be proud about after starting 0-9(I think) in 2017, first QB since Steve Young to start 16 games and take the team to the # 1 seed and super bowl. And best statistical season by a 49ers QB since Jeff Garcia. I understand there's a lot to be frustrated about, but the fanbase treats him like he's young Alex Smith

fyi Shaun Hill hate will not be tolerated he was a warrior

Haven't read the whole post yet but….

There are countless of QBs who have benefitted from mostly sitting on the bench year 1. Top of my head Phillip Rivers, Eli Manning, Carson Palmer, Aaaron Rodgers, Pat Mahomes, even Colin Kaepernick and many more, and until recent years this was the standard for a lot of rookie QBs, it's really not as dramatic as you guys are making it out to be. Imo Kyle is handling Trey the right way, the other rookie QBs are a bad example because those franchises are a dumpster fire , . besides Trey from the beginning was advertised as someone who needed to at least wait a year before being a starter.

Eli played yr 1.

and how do you know the benefited from it? How do you know they wouldn't have turned out just the same if they actually played…you can point out just as many if not more young QBs that played their 1st yr and turned out good just as well.

why are those guys bad examples? If the only way you can become a great QB is by sitting yr 1 then every single team would do it. Especially the bad teams that have nothing to play for.

you're setting up your scenario perfectly, he's gonna be the scout QB rest of the year. Get damn near no development. Then according to you he's suppose to come in and be a stud in 2022 because he held a clipboard all yr…he will still be raw as sushi when it comes to playing the position, will have a lot of bumps in the road and you will claim bust. I can see it going down just like that.

End of the playing football gets you better at football….if you disagree with that then this whole debate is pointless.
Hmm I remember Kurt Warner being the staring QB in 2004 until probably the end of that season, anyways…

teams let rookie QBs start in the beginning because they have no better option and are most likely a very bad team coming off a 1/2 win season looking for any kind of hope. I expect Trey to go through some struggles in year 2 but also expect to show some signs of stardom. If he's not on his way to being that stud by year 3, then the discussion of him being a bust needs to happen. until then, he gets a pass.

Kyle is playing the long game with Trey, I just hope it's worth it

This guy claims he's the only objective poster on the board, but can't take objective information if it doesn't meet his narrative…

From the mouth of Mahomes :

"Just in preparation, the mental side of the game, I definitely benefited," Mahomes said. "Being able to watch how teams made adjustments, and then how we made adjustments to the defense, how we'd figure out what blitzes they were bringing, how to protect them, it definitely helped me in the game [against the Chargers]. It's knowing how to operate the huddle, and then being able to go out there and execute the game plan how it's supposed to be run."

And as the quarterback himself intimated, there were plenty of fireworks set off on Sunday that would have created issues in 2017.

"I may have made some of them, making the throws and all that," he said. "But there are parts now where I'm so much further ahead mentally that I'm more comfortable in the pocket, I don't have to worry about, 'Am I protected?' Or if I'm hot. I know those things. … Being able to throw the ball to the right spots and trusting my o-line, it's definitely something I've gained as I've had that last year to learn."

Some guys should sit, some guys can play early on... every player is different. Those closest to the situation like Kyle and or John Lynch have a better grasp of which category TL probably best fits in, fwiw Quincy Avery agrees with KS in sitting him.

But to say he will get damn near no development is flat out wrong. That is a narrative being pushed by the "Play Trey now" crowd if we are being honest.

I agree with what Cossell said here :

"I know there's a lot of people who believe just because he can run around and Garoppolo can't, that that automatically makes him a better option," Cosell shared. "But I think the whole point, and the reason coaches work 16, 17 hours a day, is they want the quarterback to execute the offense. And I think, at this point in time, Jimmy Garoppolo executes the offense better than Trey Lance. But the bottom line is Trey Lance has started one game, so this is not a knock on Trey Lance. This is just where he is right now."

Trey won't be a stud should he be QB1 next year if he sits behind JG this year. There will still be some bumps and bruises as he grows into the position.

Eli started in 7 games.

That's such a crap take. If you think sitting a QB is the best chance at them being good you find a bridge QB. Look at the Jags they had Minshew. The bears got Dalton and foles, yet fields is starting.

They're rebuilding they don't have to win now…if any team can afford to put their prize QB on the bench it's a s**t team.

playing football gets you better at playing football. Period.

Lol and Mahomes said he couldn't read defenses when he won the MVP…literally what every guy says about sitting is they learned how to prepare like a pro…wow.

Jimmy sat for 3 yrs so according to all of you he should be the MVP of the league lol…nope he's still got the same mechanics issues since his NE days. Still doesn't see the field well. All I heard when he wasn't doing well is hey he's only got so many passing attempts. Well no s**t.

game slows down when you get put in those live situations over and over. Not sitting on the sideline listening to the play call and watching Jimmy put on his jock strap "like a pro".

You either start developing now or you basically waste a yr and have to do it next yr….it's gonna be so awesome to listen to everyone b***h about Lance not being Mahomes next yr because he sat a yr.
