If stats are all that matters then, hey, leave him in. Just fix the damn play calling and start holding players accountable when they f**k up.

Not all it matters - but I think it's clear that Lance can play this game. He obviously needs to improve in so many areas but as long as he looks like he belongs on the field - he should start so he can learn the game.

Play Calling can be better but I won't blame Kyle yet. He's also learning what plays will work with Lance and what will not. This is why I wanted Lance to get all the reps this summer - so he's better prepared and Kyle also knows what plays he can run effectively. I really hope he gets these 10 days of practice as no1 Qb.

Lance can learn plenty doing scout team reps where he is not going to get killed making bonehead rookie errors. Like cutting in instead of running to the side boundary. He is going to tear and ACL or get his leg broke making errors like that. He might be young but he is not immune from serious injury.

He needs time. He still looks very raw and still is making silly mistakes. Odds are with time he will be real good. He is not real good yet.

I thought you said you didn't watch the game? Jimmy gets the ball out a lot faster than Trey, so I'm not sure you can jump to that conclusion.

I disagree. All 1st round QBs started today. If sitting on the sidelines was better than starting - all of those guys would be holding the clipboard too.

I don't think Lance is any rawer than those QBs. He needs time on the field. Best and fastest way to learn.

What does this even mean??

To be neutral.... I think Trey responded well after the early turnover. I was one BEFORE the draft that said Trey could be the Josh Allen/Mahomes of this draft but will need at least 1-2 years to develop. A couple things he needs to clean up is to stop winding up his throw because he will continue to get it batted down at the LOS. Another is to stop diving to the ground, I think he could have had more rushing yards if he would have taken his time to make a cut of stiff arm but he was quick to either dive to the ground or many times cut the legs of his own lineman.

With all that being said, Jimmy gives us the best chance to win this season. Even with the clock control offense to keep Arizona off the field, we needed some big 3rd down conversions and Jimmy is arguably one of the best QBs in converting a 3rd down throw. Jimmy has 2 more weeks to get his legs back under him but Trey does need to get more practice reps just incase Jimmy does not hold up which should not be surprising to anyone at this point.

1) Kap had only played in half a regular season game against the Rams when Alex Smith was taken out plus some wildcat packages before that.

2) Jimmy had played in 2 regular season games when Brady was banned.

In the meantime, Trey Lance has been in and out of games, other than that today was his first official start. You tell me, was he better than what Kap and Jimmy showed when they started for the 9ers?

Kap didn't start for a year and half after he was drafted. Jimmy didn't start for the Patriots until 2.5 years after he was drafted. Trey wasn't even drafted six months ago.

These are dumb comparisons. Better comparisons would be all the rookie QB's in this draft class. And even then it's probably not a fair comparison. Everyone knew Mac Jones, who started the full 13 games for a championship Bama team last year, would look more pro-ready than Trey, who started one game last year, coming out the gate.

Look at Fields' first start a couple weeks ago against Cleveland. Trey's first start today was vastly better.

I disagree 100%. Young QBs just need time (if they are ever going to pan out). Kap sat behind Alex for 1 1/2 years and Jimmy sat behind Brady for 3 years. And boy were they ready or were they ready when they started?! There was a reason why they were so equipped when they started. They had time to soak things in. Just because you throw a rookie QB into the fire in his first year, that doesn't necessarily mean he will be ready sooner. Case in point Josh Allen who didn't come good until his third year.

Absolutely!! You are 100% correct which is why Trey Lance is nowhere near ready. Lance needs to sit behind Jimmy just like Jimmy sat behind Brady or when Kap sat behind Alex. You kind of answered yourself really. LOL.
