Add in Colin never developing the ability to go through progressions and you get what you get. But if you think we come close to the SB in 2012 with Alex Smith at the helm you are out your mind. It was the right move.

We lost the SB because the team was completely unprepared to play a football game and we didn't use our best player when we were on the cusp of scoring the winning TD. That loss was never on Kap.

What exactly does a HC do in regards to developing? They aren't sitting there developing one player all season and in TC. Most of a players development comes from them putting work in/during the off season.

A coaches job is to put their players in the best place to succeed and get them to understand their playbook…which is sort of "developing" but not what most people think.

it wasn't Harbs fault kap couldn't go through reads, that's in Kap to learn how to do that.

So if Trey doesnt develop and never learns to go through reads, its his fault and not shannys?

Shanny picked trey. He used three1st round picks on him. He should have been DAMN SURE that he would be able to read defenses eventually.

I'm not saying that Jimmy's YAC yardage shouldn't be counted but it's a fact that he has a higher percentage of his yards from YAC than other starters. I just said that because you wanted to throw out that one long play. Even if it was just because of a blown coverage, the fact is Trey completed it without hanging the ball in the air so the other defender could come over and make the tackle. Jimmy always seems to hang the ball when he throws really deep which is probably why Kyle doesn't call those plays much.

The short passing game that Jimmy runs well can work fine but it also requires longer drives with no 15 yard penalties that set them back. Deep throws are lower percentage but they also bring PI flags when the defender runs into the receiver while looking for the ball. We saw one last night for the Raiders that was about 45 yards.

Trey didn't hang the ball??

Deebo literally *stopped* and waited for the ball.

And the reason why I bring up the blown coverage is because it shows that outside of that, he was tremendously lackluster. People are using that 1 play to showcase stats to try to imply that Lance had a better day. He did not. The stats outside of that 1 play give a better indication of what Trey Lance's day looked like.

When you tie your franchise to the guy it absolutely is. That was HIS guy. It will be on Shanny if Lance never develops too. You handpick em it's on you.

The comparisons to Kaepernick are so lazy. Trey has so much more nuance and feel for the QB position. Kaep was just an athlete running around making plays, totally unsustainable. Trey's footwork and throwing mechanics, despite needing a lot of improvement, are far better than Kaep's ever were.

They don't even run the same way. Kap was pure speed and long strides made the defenders take bad angles - only to see him run by. Lance has way more agility and change of direction.

True, different running styles. Trey runs like a little bigger and slightly slower Justin Fields. But like Kaep, neither standout amongst today's crop of running QB's. Even guys like Kyler Murray, Taysom Hill, and Russell Wilson have something special about their running ability even when compared to other athletic QB's. Trey doesn't.

Hes not wrong. I said the same thing yesterday. Trey doesnt seem to be fast like fields or jaskson. He isnt elusive like wilson or murray. He doesnt seem to be very strong like hill and allen. I thought I was going to be blown away by his running, I havent been so far.

Yes he is. Doesnt matter if you said the same thing yesterday. You are wrong too.

We can say this about either qb. The same people arguing that he put up 15 points in a half are the same ones who said our offense led by Jimmy putting up 28 points in 30 minutes of play was, "figured out" and, "so easy to defend".

Just pointing out the double standard. It goes both ways.

It's not 1-on-1 ball so no one's putting up X amount of points in 30 minutes here. But beyond that...

So people should be satisfied with Jimmy's production in this offense (after how many years?) because Trey put up 15 points in the 2nd half? And if they're not satisfied with him but will take 15 points from a raw 21 year old, they're biased? I'm even more confused on this now than my first

I am absolutely giddy thinking about Trey running a PA boot.

Why is Trey being lackluster all on him but Jimmy being lackluster outside of one drive is on the WR's not getting open?

and that's at 6-4 225lbs

what's wrong with this run?

He looked good as a runner. He honestly looked more elusive than I expected him to be and he demonstrated some good spatial awareness. If he can use his athleticism to buy himself time behind the LOS and gain first downs when the defense doesn't account for him, that'll be plenty.

He has also proven to be super effective at the goal line so far.

Yeah that highlight run for the 1st on the last TD kinda shook me. He's had the speed,...but it looks like he's been working with the footwork king.

So now you want to take away what was a blown coverage but you don't take away all the 5 yard passes that Jimmy throws that end up as 20 yard gains because of YAC. You also ignore the fact that the defender was forced to hesitate and froze because he thought Trey might run. That allowed Deebo to get wide open because nobody picked him up.

Trey was far from perfect but he had no game prep. He got better as the game progressed. He showed some escapability on a couple of occasions. He did about as well as could be expected under the circumstances. If he plays this week and has a good game I'm not going to start swooning all over and say he's ready. One good game means no more than one poor game.

That blown coverage was not because of Trey Lance. If anything, it's because they were so unafraid of the pass that it wasn't their priority. Trey had completed, what, 1 pass at that point? I think he was at something like 20% completions at that point.

Trey didn't start connecting on passes until later in the 4th quarter when Seattle went prevent. He was not more efficient, at all.

Y'all wanna hold Jimmy's YAC against him, but fail to take into consideration that that's how our team is built. Deebo and Aiyuk are underneath YAC guys. Kittle is a YAC TE. The 49ers don't have an explosive deep threat in the receiver group, but everyone wasn't to get mad that we aren't tossing hail mary's every which way?

Jimmy was #1 in the league on the deep ball in 2019 when we had a semblance of a deep threat in Sanders. But since then, it's been all underneath guys in the receiver room who are great with the ball in their hands. And people wanna hold that against Jimmy?

Isn't this the same franchise that perfected the West Coast Offense? But now that we are utilizing it's staple elements... it's a bad thing?

Did we learn NOTHING from the Alex Smith / Colin Kaepernick debacle? When everyone complained that Alex could only throw 5 yard check downs, and then we lost the Super Bowl because Colin Kaepernick... couldn't throw a 5 yard check down?

Make it make sense.

This fanbase has fallen off their collective rocker. Y'all have been played soooooo hard by media spin from hacks like Shasky that you actually believe this crap.

Where have you been all my life???

POTY!!!!

Agreed

This is funny, because it's wrong about almost everything lol.

This. We wouldn't have made the super bowl without Kaepernick. His games against the Packers and Falcons were two of the best performances of a 49ers QB since Steve Young.

Also, the west coast offense is fine but the production just isn't there with Jimmy. Many of us have said this for awhile but ya'll didn't listen and still think he's coming back in 2022.

I think the gameplan this Sunday should include a heavy dose of that. I'm sure a week of practice will help but he looked skittish in the pocket last Sunday so put him in a position where he feels more comfortable, outside the pocket. Hope he doesn't butcher a throw like he did to Kittle on the rollout last Sunday. That was terribly funny.

People are a trip. Kaepernick was THE REASON WE WENT TO THE SUPERBOWL! Our defense was really hurting by the end of 2012. They gave up 30+ points to packers in the playoffs, 24 to the falcons and 34 to the Ravens. Kap is the only reason we won any of those 3 games, same with many games throughout the season.

Yes, we couldn't get it in from the 5 yard line and that f**kin' sucks. But we had dink & dunker jimmy G in the superbowl and also couldn't get the job done so it's strange that someone would paint it that way.

Also strange that people would write the book on trey lance after 30 NFL snaps lol

Trey didn't start connecting on passes until later in the 4th quarter when Seattle went prevent. He was not more efficient, at all. Seattle didnt go prevent once in the entire game. Making stuff up.

The 49ers don't have an explosive deep threat in the receiver group, but everyone wasn't to get mad that we aren't tossing hail mary's every which way? Why does it have to be tossing hail marys every which way and not what people are actually asking of Jimmy? No one is asking for bombs every play. That isnt what anyone is saying. We just want all parts of the field attacked. Outside the numbers more than 5 yards past the LOS. Deep shots from time to time. That is what we are asking for. And Aiyuk looked plenty explosive as a deep threat last year. I wonder what the difference is? Actually I dont.

Jimmy was #1 in the league on the deep ball in 2019 when we had a semblance of a deep threat in Sanders. But since then, it's been all underneath guys in the receiver room who are great with the ball in their hands. And people wanna hold that against Jimmy? If you consider Sanders a deep threat, then Deebo and Aiyuk are too. Period.

Isn't this the same franchise that perfected the West Coast Offense? But now that we are utilizing it's staple elements... it's a bad thing? Kyle has said many times this is not a true west coast offense. And even during the WCO era, we used the underneath stuff, crossing patterns, slants to open up the big throws downfield. We arent doing that now.

Did we learn NOTHING from the Alex Smith / Colin Kaepernick debacle? When everyone complained that Alex could only throw 5 yard check downs, and then we lost the Super Bowl because Colin Kaepernick... couldn't throw a 5 yard check down? We would never have made the Superbowl without Kaepernick. The most I am willing to admit is if we played out the playoffs and SB from the beginning all the way to the point where we were inside the 5, and THEN put Alex in, we might have won. Anything other than that is fantasyland nonsense.

Make it make sense. I am attempting to by responding to this post of yours.

This fanbase has fallen off their collective rocker. Y'all have been played soooooo hard by media spin from hacks like Shasky that you actually believe this crap. Some of us have been around long enough to know what good to great QB play is. This fanbase hasnt had great QB play for so long that people have no idea what it is anymore. Has nothing to do with what is said on the radio.

You sure got the Jimmy homers riled up with this post. So much inaccuracy in here, its astonishing. See the bolded.

The skittish behavior, nervousness will calm down with a week of prep. Certainly nothing he will improve sitting on the bench. Very confident with Shanny coming up with a successful plan. Whether people agree or not, this is a hell of an exciting time to be a Niners fan for me!

We lost that SB because Kap couldn't throw a checkdown? Did I watch a completely different game then yall?

Also did seattle actually go into prevent defense, it didn't seem like it watching live but I haven't seen the all 22 yet so perhaps they did.

Pretty low bar for POTY we have here.
