Can't wait to see what Trey has after a few weeks of reps with the 1's and a scheme tailored to his skill set.
Chris' thread here sums it up pretty well...
Trey Lance not being ready was part of the deal when he was drafted, but not giving him necessary practice time or game experience exasperates that. Then if (when) Jimmy Garoppolo gets hurt, you suddenly have a rookie QB over his skis. And it's not like JG is Alex Smith.

Shanahan's insistence on it not being a QB battle is where I think he took a misstep. It should have been, because that would have meant more reps for Lance. And if he doesn't think Lance was good enough to make it a QB battle, that's ultimately on the coach who's developing him.

He said nothing wrong, and I appreciate him actually taking a decisive stance. Instead of just towing the company line with 49ers brass.
Let's be real. Most Niner fans deep down inside knew that Jimmy would get hurt again at some point. No one wanted to say it because its hard to be overly negative during pre-season when optimism is usually high.

Everyone's got a take on the Shanahan-Lance stuff, here's mine:

This comes down to Shanahan not forcing Lance to run whatever this offense is "supposed" to be. Maximize the offense with what Lance is comfortable with as he develops and embrace the chaoshttps://t.co/qpLuo0xIHp

Seems like Maiocco, Barrow and Cam Inman are about the only decent guys we have covering the team at the moment. Madden on Niners Wire is okay too but it seems like everyone else is taking their lead from all the talking head types on TV where I guess it pays to be strident and annoying while constantly trying to interject themselves into the center of the story.
what's wrong here?

Kyle made it work with RG3 regarding installing an offense that a rookie QB can be comfortable in. I trust he can do it with Lance.

agreed...you had Jimmy supporters saying point blank, Jimmy is the starter until he gets hurt...lol they knew it was inevitable. So Lance is standing there with his pants around his ankles and fans are expecting something magical all of a sudden.
Lance should have had more snaps, Jimmy is not Alex Smith from 2016/2017 ( he actually had multiple yrs of staying healthy).
Sucks, in a perfect world Jimmy plays all yr and win a SB and SF trades him for a buttload of picks...but that was a fairy tale and best case scenario. What is happening now was always more likely.

Great read. It's known that the OL will have to adjust to Trey's style, but I especially liked the part about our receivers needing to practice scramble drills. Have a feeling there will be a few down the road…

This is on point. At this point in his career, Trey isn't the type of QB that dinks and dunks down the field to move the chains and keep sustained drives going. He's more playmaker than QB right now, and Kyle is going to have to take the good with the bad. In other words, Trey will generate a lot more explosive plays than Jimmy, but he'll also miss the layups to sustain drives and move the chains.
But the way the league has trended, explosive plays >>>>>>>> sustained drives. Create turnovers+score points is the eminent winning recipe in contemporary football.
I guess we're going to find out firsthand if the bold is that much true. Sustained drives will always be important. Everyone likes explosive plays...a lot including myself also really like sustained drives for all the obvious reasons.
Creating turnovers + scoring points has always been a recipe for playing winning football - past and present.

Yeah but RG3 got all of training camp and preseason as the #1, Trey not so much...this is gonna be a cluster f**k mid-season install.
I can't wait to hear the b***hing from the fan base...

Sustained drives also create more opportunities for the offense to mess up...you need every player to execute for long drives on every play and that's not gonna be the cas all the time.
SF isn't creating TOs either...they have what one on the yr?
There's got to be a thread to have explosive plays, just how the league is. I hope we can manage to have both

this is what the league wants. Less holding penalties. More defensive pass interference. More explosive plays down the field.
I saw McGlinchey get away with a hold while Trey was scrambling, funningly enough.
Adapt to the modern league, or get left to the way side.
And none of this means that Trey will be the right guy for us. But at least the front office recognizes where the league is trending.

He also watched all of training camp...so he's probably a little more objective then people in here who didn't.
