Not as long as contracts are still setup the way they are.

This isn't the NBA where when you sign a $150M deal you get $150M regardless.

Avg NBA player career - 4.5 years
Avg NFL player's career - 3.3 years

Also NFL career-ending injuries I'd say happen more often in addition to the accumulated injuries (like concussions) that also can force players to retire much earlier is more likely to happen in the NFL.

What we might see a haves and have-nots on contracts like this. If you have the talent/leverage to demand this, you'll see this type of deal (top players). If you aren't probably not.

Yeah it's a simple as having fully guaranteed contract (MLB/NBA) vs not.

Wont matter once they figure out they can get it from the next team. Not saying it will be for everyone. But the elite are very soon to figure out they can leave if they want to.
Not sure how a bengals reporter know this but this changes things

Not true. You lose a yrs worth of salary, that s**t is gone. The new team isn't gonna say oh well so you sat out for a yr I'll just tied on an extra $20M that you lost.

As long as the NFL doesn't have FGTD the owners will have leverage.

He knows what he's losing if he sits out. it won't be a surprise.

Watson knows no one will back pay him. What Philly means by getting money from the next team, is getting money just for playing on another team.

I heard a "Trade" this AM on Football Talk.

I would do it!

For Watson we trade Houston:

Fred Warner, JG, Jeff Wilson and Give Our 1 & 2 this year, Our 1 & 3 next year

Thoughts??

Doesn't sound like Texans are budging to trade Watson but would they be foolish to potentially trade him after the draft??

Grant is so dumb. We don't even have 40 people under contract

Why? The team wouldn't be any worse. Hell, it would be marginally better.

It is just another b******t rumor that has zero backing from the team until someone actually steps up and says so. All of these have been rumors, funny how even Stafford with all that talk was shown to be a no offer from us after the fact. The thing is we kick the tires on every car in the lot so people get all excited...it doesnt mean anything. Cousins is about the same level of talent as Jimmy, you trade worse leadership for better durability. That isn't a huge gain, if it was an even swap, it would be a tepid maybe from me, just because he would be a lot more likely to play the whole year.

And a better arm.

But the durability thing is underrated here. When Jimmy's injured, he's as useful as Nick Mullens. Trading for Cousins over Jimmy is trading for Cousins over Mullens half the year.

I don't think Cousins' arm is much better if at all. Jimmy has just let his accuracy go to s**t due to lower body injuries making his mechanics garbage fairly often. It is fixable with a rare stretch of health and good coaching.

Mullens wont be back next year, offseason surgery on the throwing arm and a RFA? I don't think we bother, and if we went with either Jimmy or Kirk we would have to draft a kid just based on the risk that either were to implode or get mangled.
Jimmy's had bad mechanics on his lower body since at least 2017 (the earliest I've paid attention to look). It didn't just suddenly become bad because of injury. It was like that then.

If you, for example, watch the Jaguars game, you'll see him overthrow an over route early in the game, and the reason is the very same bad mechanics you're talking to.

He has the most punchable face in human history.

He's not even top 10. Pete Carroll, Sean Payton, Eli Manning, Jed York, Steven A Smith, Chris Collinsworth and Kyler Murray all are way more punchable
