Mac Jones-QB-49ers

This year has a lot of teams wanting a new QB, much more than prior years. This is why Mac Jones will be taken by pick #10

This is the 2021 draft order for the first 15:

Jacksonville - Trevor Lawrence
Jets - Miller
Miami - Tua not a lock to start, but tending towards him being the QB in 2021
Falcons - QB in the mix - Ryan's replacement
Bengals - Burrow
Philadelphia - QB in the mix - Wentz gone, Eagles FO not sold on Jalen Hurts
Detroit Lions - QB in the mix - Even though they landed Goff, they may still draft a QB (https://www.nfl.com/news/despite-acquiring-jared-goff-lions-leaving-no-stones-unturned-in-approach-to-off)
Carolina - QB in the mix - will move on Teddy Bridgewater
Denver - QB in the mix - Not sold on Lock
Dallas - QB in the mix - up in the air with Prescott
Ny Giants - Daniel Jones
SF - They SAY Garoppolo is the guy but who knows
Chargers - Herbert
Minesota - Cousins
New England - QB in the mix

8 out of the top 15 most likely will be changing QBs. With Lawrence and Wilson probably going 1-2. You have at least 5 teams ahead of SF, that could or will draft a QB (unless they trade or land a QB from another team). Which leaves only Fields and Jones (possibly Lance) in that mix. So Mac Jones will probably go in the 4 - 10 range, with a possible trade up from New England to one of those spots to get Mac Jones.

I don't see Philly/Detroit/Dallas and really Denver being in the market for a QB overall.

I can see Philly/Det acting like they are so they can get someone to come up and make a trade. Both teams are poop and need a BUNCH of talent. Philly is gonna have to cut a ton of talent to just get under the cap. Philly needs a ton of young talent on cheaper deals....Both teams will also have multiple first in 2022.

It was reported today that Dak isn't gonna make it to FA. They're not drafting a QB.

Ben Albright has said Lock is getting another go UNLESS they can get someone like Watson. CB seems more likely IMO.

I just have a feeling someone like the Panthers will be willing to wait out the Watson sweepstakes, their owner wants him real bad. I can also seem them moving up for a QB as well.

ATL I'm not sold on either, I don't see the point in wasting a yr paying Ryan and Jones $63M and not get them someone to help them now. They're also in cap hell and could benefit from getting more picks (possibly a future 1st).

we will see.

Goff benefitted from having McVay in the headset and that is no secret.

Whether he is the guy or not, Mac is a natural fit here. I personally don't care too much as to who we take, but I do really hope we take one of these QB prospects.

What you don't think Kyle is doing that with whatever QB we have?

They don't have a problem with really any QB throwing from structure and reading the plays here, sure there's a downgrade with CJ/BDN (slower to process stuff), but Mullens was very well versed in coverages and the scheme...it's when that play breaks down and they have to improvise, all the QBs here are a deer in headlights.

I think who they pick (if) matters a ton for this regime going forward, just going off what Kyle said end of the yr I think people might be surprised.

Mcvay would literally call plays early though so he could see the D before the clock gets to 15 and shuts off, so he can give Goff the audible.

Shanny may have done that some, but Jimmy did call his own audibles at the line. He had more trust from his coach than Goff did. To be fair to Mcvay, he inherited Goff and Goff was a Snead pick so he didn't have a lot of choice out of the gate.

I can see the intrigue in Justin Fields. Hometown kid coming to play and learn from Matt Ryan. Perfect situation, too. If they draft Javonte Williams in the 2nd, their future with Fields/Javonte/Julio could be Arthur Smith's version of Tanny/Henry/AJ.
The great issue for Mack Jones is whether he is similar to Tom Brady when Brady was drafted? Brady has never been like Mahomes. Brady's strong suit is field vision, decision making, and a consistent arm to make all plays. I see Jones more in the Tom Brady mold of QB good field vision, good decision making, consistent arm, can make deep throws, winning background, occasionally can run for short yardage. I think Jones is a more consistent, down the field QB than Garoppolo, with less interceptions. I would take him at 12, if available. I can see Belichek going up to get him, a lot of similarities to Brady.

And? That's not some unheard of thing...McVay didn't do that for every single audible with Goff.

my point is you don't need to be some master mind QB who can go through all kinds of reads right out of college. That's a learned trait.

Could be...basically just wasting $63M million by doing that though.

I can see them going in a bunch of different directions. Pitts with Smith would be insane imo.

"Trey Lance fits the 49ers offense better than Mac Jones." - Pete Prisco (yes he really said that)

Kiper is pumping up Mac Jones, Prisco is pumping up Lance, I feel like there's about to be some sort of Dr Brown time paradox which will unravel the fabric of the space time continuum and destroy everything.

Pete Prisco
@PriscoCBS

Watched three games of Davis Mills today. There is a lot to like. Might be most-underrated QB in this draft. (yes he really said that too)

Ruined Mills too.

All the top 5 QBs fit Kyle's offense

I agree with him. Trey Lance ran the play action with his back to the defense more than Jones did. Jones ran mostly out of the Shotgun and more RPO. I can't really recall Jones under center actually

Yup they all fit and ran concepts of our offense. Wilson by far fits the best with Lance and Fields next IMO, more so than Lawrence and McCorkle

You guys are basing fit on concepts which no doubt helps. But then there's timing, anticipation, ball placement, pocket awareness etc... this is what Kyle's offense is built around.

He drafts skilled players who can YAC. If your QB has to wait to see the play open up, constantly throwing off target accurate balls that stops the WR or takes him to the ground. You are losing the same hidden yardage that a mobile QB can get you with his legs.

3 of the top 4 have multiple of those things that need to be corrected.

I'm not sitting here saying any of these 5 QBs are perfect cause they're not. Though IMO if you look at the totality of these QBs you'll see OUR true fits are Lawrence, Jones & Wilson

I'd love to draft Jones - but, I think we're losing Williams and are probably going to draft an OT to replace him.
