Could be. I wouldn't be shocked to see a few other moves today. Like the team shutting down Jimmy G. for the rest of the season because that ankle isn't getting any better.

I wouldn't shut him down, I would let him heal 3-4 games and finish the season. If he's still playing the same trade him or cut him

Cutting him is stupid.

Save like $9M next yr though

He has 25 million reasons why he should be playing.
I'm going to miss Kwon. When he's on he's a heat seeking missile on the field. Not to mention he was clearly a leader in the LB room. With Greenlaw's emergence into a legit playmaker his days were numbered. Good move to clear some cap space for next year.

Indeed, roll with Mullins as I think the playbook opens more with him at the helm. Who knows, if he wins 3 of the next 4, maybe roll with the hot hand.

Dre greenlaw beat out kwon. Kwon was way too expensive.

Al shaair showed whst he can do, so the niners got kiko as a stop gap.

Will Kiko even play?

Special teams

I mean, is he healthy enough to play? He tore his ACL in the playoffs last year.

Got Kiko Alonzo

What is Alonzo's cap hit? Alonzo to play Al'Shair's side plus a pick for a lower cap hit would be a hell of a coup.

Im not sure but a lot better than having Al-Shair playing

This is called "waving the white flag."

We got Kwon and others to help us get to the Super Bowl. They did. We didn't win. Now the window has closed. At least for this season.

The window for this season closed when Bosa went down. This moves has more to do with money than anything else. Dre replaces Kwon instantly for less cash.

You're probably right about Bosa. I was hoping that Dee Ford could provide a little more push, but he's MIA.

I wonder if the brain trust even cares about a playoff push this season? Or is it wait till next year?

Those are excellent questions. I don't think the front office is stupid—they know we're fighting a very uphill battle without some of our best players. They certainly aren't giving up on the season, but they need to make the moves necessary for this team to compete long-term. I suspect the team will try to do something with Dee Ford next.

Was Kwon seen as an issue on defense; as this simply a cap off-loading thing; or was this for help with our anemic pass rush? Personally I didn't see Kwon as a problem on defense. In fact he's much better than Kiko Alonso (who ran a 4.74 40) as a pass defender. So I see this as pass-rush help and cap off-loading, because I simply don't see how Kiko helps us otherwise.

His weakness was missed tackles. He had excellent speed but was prone to overrunning players or coming in too hard and not wrapping up.

This was a salary dump for next year.

The thing with Al-Shaair, and other young players, is that they have the talent to look absolutely FANTASTIC on one play and the lack of experience to look incredibly bad on the next play.

Fred Warner's rookie season was hit and miss as well. You just roll with it.

armstead sucks,,inside, outside,,upside down HE SUCKS

He has not been as good as he was last season but is still rated in the top 25 EDs. Think JPP for a comparison this year.

Niners also get a conditional 5th round pick. Lynch said they are trying to get more picks in anticipation of losing some guys next season because of the cap.

yeah emphasis on the "miss" in missile.

Kwon is accountable for $13 million the next two seasons. Kiko is only accountable for $3.5 and is a free agent at the end of the season.

We need the money and cap space that Kwon was taking up.

I don't see us trading McKinnon as his contract is basically peanuts and I doubt we'll be bringing him back next year.

Might as well just roll with him for the rest of the year due to the amount of injuries we've got at RB.
