What does Reid have to do with anything? He wasn't a free safety and they offered him the same amount of money that he ended up accepting from Carolina a lot later on.

Because what we had wasnt an immediate upgrade behind him and it wasnt bank breaking to keep him. I mean look at what they did with ward. It just seems like they value other positions more than safeties.

I don't think Saleh values safeties. Or at the very least, the talent level at that position is overblown in his eyes compared to what the fans think. He'd probably be okay with having a below average starter like Ward and Colbert playing there.

Seems like we're trying to get a CB to take Witherspoon's snaps away though.

Getting a quality starter opposite Sherman would be nearly as impactful as getting Earl. Our #2 CBs get abused regularly and allow teams to sustain drives. Spoon has shown some things, but he is best served as a dime back and reserve player. Injuries happen and he'll end up getting snaps.

Theres been no talk out of his camp at all outside of his desired contract... so far the best info to go on is him saying "Dallas come get me" and Sherman saying there is definitely interest but it has to make sense financially. Dallas has some cap issues so hopefully the silence is a bidding war which the niners can easily match or give more than anything Dallas can do.

Every other safety needy team has been told to kick rocks by his agent causing them to go after their next target.

I think he has a lot of input in what he wants for his defense, yes. It's ultimately up to Lynch. But considering how he already gave concessions to Shanahan on Joe Williams and Beathard, he probably listens to what the coaches want and then moves forward with that.
