Yup. Chiefs will still be playoff contenders but whenever they fall short Mahomes will always get a pass for his teams short comings
weird how much football is a team game despite what some may want you to believe

Schwartz was out most of 2020, and Fisher tore his Achilles tendon in the AFCCG.

Shouldn't it go up? Supply and demand. That's another team that needs a tackle.
It sounds like the Chiefs had no choice. Fisher is going to be out for a long time, and some believe that Schwartz is considering retirement.

Chiefs are $3M OVER the cap AFTER today's cuts.

Another in a long line of would be dynasties running into problems. It seems like every team that wins a SB is immediately predicting they are set for a long run. Then a couple guys leave for free agency and another guy gets hurt. The team starts running into cap issues as players that win always want more money. Getting to the SB once is hard for most teams. Repeating year after year is rare. That's why there have been only about 4 or 5 dynasties in the league since 1950. In those 55 years since the SB started, 27 have been won by the 5 dynasties. (Packers, Steelers, Niners, Cowboys and Patriots) Half by just 5 teams. Some still haven't been to one.

after their No Holds Called Super Bowl, Nick Wright was going crazy saying they were going to win 5 more Super Bowls along with other analysts. The only one being reasonable about the Chiefs was Colin Cowhers saying small market teams always go crazy after winning a championship thinking they're gonna be the next dynasty, citing the Seahawks as an example. He said once they paid Mahomes and all the other stars it was gonna be pretty much impossible. Not everyone can have a wife that makes more money like Tom Brady who can take less money and build a winner. funny how its turning out.

The salary cap is a huge issue for dynasties and in the salary cap era, there's really just the NE Patriots who've bucked the trend. They are on a list of one. Impressive what they've done since the cap was instated in 1994 (with only the Broncos and Giants have also winning multiple SBs since).

The are big reasons why the Pats were so successful for 20 years. It was a perfect storm. They had the same coach and QB the entire time. How often has that happened before? Their QB took less money so they could sign key players because he was married to someone making more than him. How often does that happen? The rest of the division was bad nearly every year with a couple of exceptions. None of the other teams had stability at QB or HC. Rules were changed that helped protect their immobile QB so he was rarely injured. he rest of the AFC was mostly weak during that time. Other than Pittsburg and the Ravens, there weren't many strong teams in the AFC.
All those things converged at the same time. The perfect storm.

Mortensen just said that the Chiefs intend to make a run at Trent Williams.
I'm not a cap guy, so one of you number crunchers would have to vet this. But according to Chiefs fans, they can create $30m in cap space without touching anyone other than Kelce, Mathieu, and Jones and more if they extend/restructure Tyreek Hill.

I wonder how long mahomes will last. Seems injuries are piling up. He's got weird/loose joints too. Maybe that's why he can throw from any angle (flexibility), but they seem prone to injury.

It's going to piss me off so much if the Chiefs steal TW from us, all because the league allows GM's to turn contracts into signing bonuses. Such a flawed system and it's a disadvantage to some teams. I thought the point of a salary cap is to create an even playing field when it comes to spending. On the books it will show the Chiefs with the same cap has everyone else but really their payers contracts will be like $100 Million more than most teams. How is that fair?
Yes I know, they will pay for that down the road. But doesn't make a difference if the cap keeps going up.

I agree restructured and void years need to be outlawed. The rams and others over the cap should be forced to release players.
But all these dead cap clauses need to go always too. Once you get your guaranteed money, the club should be able to cut you with 0 dead money. And if a player is traded the whole contract should be the responsibility of the new club. Why do they get to double dip? That's stealing from other players; the team could've used that money to pay other players.
Make contracts simple and strict.
