The removal of the fixator meshes with Smith's timeline when he told Angie Goff of FOX5 DC last month he'd need to wear the brace another four to six weeks. The QB credited the device with giving him a chance to continue his football career.
"Believe it or not, this thing is going to save my leg, save my bone, allow me to heal and walk again and hopefully play football again," he said at the time.
Getting the fixator off is far from the last step in Smith's stated goal of continuing his NFL career, but it's a big stride.

Thank god for modern medicine. Good to hear.

that's great but considering he's 'learning to walk' again essentially, he should still call it quits at this stage of his career.

Might as well rehab with the team at their facilities while being paid.

Both
He should go to the booth. Smart guy and seems personable. Let me tell you, s**t starts to hurt that you never thought would hurt when you get old. I know. Save your knees Alex, you've done enough.

I dunno. I think if that leg fully recovers, he could still be an effective NFL player. Say it takes another year and a half, plenty of teams could use a QB of his caliber.

You know how a lot of players are Gunshy after an injury comeback? I can't imagine how many more check down's Alex will throw, thinking a hit is coming if he is able to start again anywhere.

While this is the most severe injury he's had, it's not the only one. Remember the shoulder? He's already proven he has the mental resilience coming back from not just that, but the absolutely torrential hate from fans and mismanagement by coaches in his early years.

Bone breaks are not like other injuries where players get shy. Either the bone heals strong enough or it doesn't. It's not like a tendon or muscle that you have to worry about tweaking and re-aggravating. Age and being out of football will have a bigger impact on his play than the injury itself....assuming that it heals well enough for him to play at all.

I'd still like for him to retire, but you gotta admire his drive and passion.

Show me where I said he sucks.

You been bashing his play for years... literally. Maybe you didn't use the word "sucks," but you imply that with emphasis on hundreds of posts.

I think he is a lot worse than his fans do. I think he is an average to slightly below average QB. "Bashing" his play is just responding to posts like "he was a borderline Pro Bowler in 2018." That's not bashing.

Slightly below average QBS don't have full careers as starters in the NFL.So either you're suggesting that you have a more intelligent, educated opinion about his ability as a player than professional GMs and Coaches or you have admit that he is better than average.

There is a third option: He's a wizard who fools coaches and GMs with his mystical magic powers of mind control!

He didnt have a full career as a starter. He fought with nobodies until he ended up getting lucky and rode a couple good teams, but he lost his job each time. He was a disaster in Washington. Most fans were over the experiment before the injury, and I can provide a mountain of sources to prove that if you wanna act like its not true.

Lets be quite clear, this place has had more than enough arguments about Alex Smith. This thread is to discuss his present situation. Anyone who tries to revive those sad old fights is going to get bounced really, really quickly.

this thread isn't a safe space free of Alex Smith critiques. But there is a fine line between criticism and trolling. But the dude wont play this year so what are you guys even discuss...er arguing about?

Seems like all of you should "let it go" or just ignore each other.

So.....?

Its really interesting how some mods protect him like hes some god here. But Kap, you can say all the messed up things about him and mods dont say anything lol.

Create a Alex Smith positive things only thread then.

How are you guys gonna try and police what others want to say about Smith? Even if its the same old stuff, who cares...its a freaking football forum.

I have to disagree. Mods are just doing their job proactively stepping in to prevent unnecessary flame wars and/or continued beatings of long dead horses.

Point is, you have one mod saying this isnt a safe zone, then another mod saying it is...

and you cant have it both ways either. If i can go into the Kap thread and call him a pos racist loser and nothing will happen, then English shouldnt be coming in here telling ppl to be nice to Alex or only discuss current situations. The message should be no trolling and dont attack other posters. Not lets not be mean to Alex or you get bounced.
