Watch: 49ers players take the practice field for first OTA session

The San Francisco 49ers officially kicked off organized team activities (OTAs) on Wednesday, marking the team's first on-field work of the offseason program. While the opening practice was closed to the media, the 49ers shared highlights from the session across their social media platforms.

The video featured several players taking the field, including rookies such as wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and veteran stars like quarterback Brock Purdy and running back Christian McCaffrey. New addition Mike Evans was also shown participating in drills as the team continues preparations for the 2026 NFL season.

OTAs provide the first opportunity for the 49ers offense and defense to line up against each other during offseason practices, although live contact is still prohibited under NFL rules.

Thursday marks the media's first chance to observe 49ers OTAs, with practice scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. PT.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan and select players are expected to speak with reporters following practice.

The 49ers will conclude OTAs on June 4 before holding mandatory minicamp on June 9-10. Those sessions will serve as the team's final organized practices before training camp begins in late July.
