Also a need for competition, if ppl are just handed stuff without earning it that makes for soft players.

There are plenty of vets they can bring in to be the #2 at far less cost than Jimmy G.

Lance is no more at risk for injury than Jimmy or any other QB in this league. It's rare to have a starter capable backup. This year only had that scenario due to very weird circumstances.

Plenty of vets we can bring in... I agree

TL is no more an injury risk than JG.. probably true

TL and JG are no more an injury risk than any other QB.. you lose me on this one.. we have an extraordinary amount of games missed at QB1 from these two guys. They have both shown to be injury prone imo.. you shed that label by going an extended stretch without missed games due to injury.

What if Lance is the QB that can just win and have that extra top level play that brings in a few extra playoff and SB wins over the next 10-15 years? They have to find out. Losing the 2023 season in order to win in 2024-2040 would be well worth it.
All I know is last year, damn near everyone screamed from the mountain tops that Jimmy G had "no chance" of being back with the 49ers yet here we are. I don't know about you guys but I hope he stays with the team for as long as the locker room continues to support him and win football games, it may take a 6th Lombardi for that to happen so it will be a tall task to say the least. The team should've never traded up for Trey Lance, or any QB of the class for the matter.

That's what I'd expect the coaches to figure out in practice and film study. My opinion means nothing but I didn't see much outta Lance when he played though

If you're a high end pick who you spent a f**k ton of capital to get (which takes a ton of conviction from ownership down to do) then ya, you get more than 4 and 1/2 QRs to develop and prove you're the guy.

he will have every opportunity to be the dude. That doesn't mean you don't get a quality backup, SF doesn't have the overall cap space to space top month on a QB or a backup though.

If he keeps playing anything close to how he is now I'm with you. As for the trade up. I'm with you there as well.

They went into 21 offseason knowing/wanting to upgrade the backup QB position because of his injury history. They then proceeded to trade the farm on a gamble.

The only reason he is here was because he took a massive pay cut to be the backup and had shoulder surgery which killed his trade value.

He ain't taking a pay cut to be the backup here in 2023…he will be in demand based on his play so far, someone will give him a fat payday and I do not think SF is gonna do that again with Lance sill here (plus you got to pay others).

I agree.

Even if TL develops nicely, look who was taken at our pick 12 it was Parsons. We may have #6 already in the case and be going for #7 as we speak, if you put him with Bosa that's laughably unfair. Instead we may have to go through Parsons to get #6. Parsons is a league wrecker / major problem.

after a SB win you wanna play "What if..."

odds favor a net negative "What if" scenario would be more likely when talking SB appearances.

Jimmy has been playing very well. Props to him for playing his style while also sprinkling in some playmaking ability. As long as pass pro holds up, he seems comfortable going through his reads and finding the check down if nothing is open downfield. 49ers converting 3rd downs at a very good clip and Jimmy is playing a large role in that.

Can you imagine this team with Micah Parsons (could have picked him had we just stayed put)?
