The INT came from the OL breaking down. He has likely been told to avoid any and all contact in the preseason, so he just got rid of the ball early and dodged the hit.

3rd pass was batted.

4th pass should've been a pick 6, but again, the pass protection was breaking down early so he got the ball out early.

5th pass nobody bothered to pick up the blitzing DB, so he had to just wing it before he got crushed for a safety.

6th pass again was just a basic play call when you're pinned down by your own endzone, just trying to create some breathing room. Breida couldn't find anywhere to go.

Aside from not stepping up into the pocket, and instead throwing off his back foot on the near pick 6, I didn't see any "scared" play, or "deer in the headlights" looks. People are taking this way too far. Its his first time back in a year. He's going to be rusty, and he's going to need a little time to get some confidence and rhythm. The OL was awful trying to protect him today. There really isn't much you can do when the OL doesn't give you time to execute properly.

Yeah honestly re-watching it the only play that really bothers me is the near pick 6. That throw can't happen.

Protection wasn't great but that's a throw Jimmy must know you're better off not taking it. Too risky and not worth it. I hope he learns from this.

I think next game Kyle will make sure to give Jimmy some better looks and better chance for success. Kind of a perfect storm of s**t last night with the batted down passes, 3rd and long situations and even our best OLman having an off day(not 100% it was all on Joe on the pick play cuz looked like he was seeing a stunt)

I dont know anyone who takes a hit on a knee and gets up perfectly fine. He needs to run around on it and take hits and get up and realize everything is good. Not take a shot on the knee

The second the big guns came off the field for Denver we started moving the ball. It was no coincidence and it wasn't C.J. We should have at least waited for game 3 when Person is back.

When should he have played then? Next game is the unofficial dress rehearsal game. If not then, then it's risky business having him get his first reps on the first game.

I would have played him - but, I would not have let him step back and throw. Not, with the condition of the OL. Now, he's going to go into the 3rd preseason game with possibly lost confidence.

I'm not up on return dates for everyone. When is the OL expected to be in better condition?

Jimmycuses, that oline will probably start week 1, better adapt or die and earn your check.

Hes a world class troll. He makes up for his total lack of writing talent by stirring the pot. He cant get attention from good journalism, so he riles people up. That has become a legitimate way to make it in the sports media business these days, sadly. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe provide entertainment for dumb sports fans of all ages using this same format. On a micro level, Grant Cohn provides entertainment for dumb 49er fans who can be swayed by whatever the latest drama is.

I don't know if you're old enough to remember, but that is precisely how his father, Lowell Cohn, was like with the San Francisco Chronicle for many years. "You want longevity in this business, son, you have to stir up the public debate." The Cohn's kryptonite is when a team is humming on all cylinders.

I think he understands the situation and will be fine. And while I understand why Kyle may have stayed away from PA against that DL with the state of our OL...i'm not sure if I would've done the same.

I think it would've helped give Jimmy some nicer looks but that's hindsight.

Definitely would've liked less empty set looks. At least threaten the run or give Jimmy some extra protection from the RB.

I'm sure we'll see a much better effort next week but the communication issues with the way KC plays at home could be problematic as well. Have to fix it. I'm sure Joe will have himself a makeup game.
Leave JG alone. I blame Kyle for not calling easier passes with more protection. Dude hasn't played at game speed in a year.
He looked nervous and shell shocked. If they don't put up 2 td's verse the worst defense in the league Saturday then I'll be officially concerned. Hopefully it's more rust than anything. I think KS really needs to let these guys hit more in TC. O line looks like they haven't had real contact. My god I cna't believe our interior o line is this bad. But he has tot stop throwing off his back foot and not stepping into passes. Looked like a guy who just hans't had enough reps which he hasn't. Sometimes I forget the guy hasn't even played 16 actual games yet.

And, he's heading back to KC the place where he tore his ACL - so, he's got that to think about.

Personally I would have never played him for this very reason. How poor of OL talent that you know you're on national TV and Kyle is asking you to protect the franchise coming back from an ACL and you completely flop. Horrendous display by everyone on that OL. JG looked terrified to plant his foot let alone look past the pressure that was instantly coming. Then Kyle calls his intermediate routes. JG needed some nice easy passes to at least start. He was never going to get in any rhythm but at least give the man a chance.

Kyle better be careful. Numerous talented QB's have been psychologically destroyed in this league due to horrendous OL play. Hell, we've harbored about half a dozen here alone over the years.

Dude he needs game reps...I was worried at first but he's gotta move around that pocket a little. Joe (our best lineman top 5 LT) totally whiffed on Chubb. That's either his fault or someone messed up on the protection call.

I'd rather have him working out the rust now vs on 9/8...I do wish kyle would have called something easier. I didn't see a single play-action call with him there, maybe throw a bootleg to get him moving a little.

I don't think the OL played well, but it wasn't just on them.

I hope he get's to play the whole 1st half next week...Jimmy G needs to get his swag back.

I don't mind the reps. He's had plenty against the Broncos's in 11v11.

I'm just saying I wouldn't have subjected him to that OL and with that "game plan." Clearly, we all saw that was a recipe for disaster long before he even took a snap.

I would have waited until Saturday in hopes Person was back and after reviewing how Garland and Johnson performed at C in this game. Then turn him loose for 2-3 quarters. Even game plan for him early to help him get his groove back.

Everything that happened last night was 100% predictable. Not a single good thing came from it. Just the opposite actually.
Unless JG plays with confidence in week 3 of the pre-season, I think you have to consider starting him in the week 4 pre-season game. If the reasoning is all about getting reps and "shaking off the cobwebs" then the pre-season is the perfect time. Let him go deep into the game 3 of the pre-season and at least 1.5 quarters of the 4th game.

I am starting to think that its not " cobwebs" and more so that he may not be that good. If he does not produce in the next couple games start Mullens week 1 with the intent of hopefully sending a signal that he needs to produce. JG is a highly paid professional football player and its time the step up and be the franchise QB. He has been in the league long enough that during last nights game, he have shown a higher level of confidence regardless of the OL. He is suppose to have a high football intelligence and quick release which should negate some OL issues. Its time to stop coddling him.

As nice as it sounds to get him more reps in Pre-season week 4, that won't happen. They made it clear that he's not playing behind anything less than the starting OL. Meaning, no chance at playing the 4th pre-season game.

That KC defense is not the same as last year. 4 new starters via FA, likely another via the draft along with a new DC and scheme.
